The Key

To open the door to the future if we had the key
Just a crack to peek inside
To see what the future holds for you and me
Or should we run and hide

Always wanting to know what’s in store
What the future may hold
Should we open the door
Should we be so bold

How many times have we said
If only I knew what tomorrow would bring
To be able to see ahead in time
To answer the phone, before the ring

Our hand squeezes the knob so tight
Excitement fills our mind
Our heart is in our throat tonight
The courage to open this door, will we find

To tempt fate and know what will be
What if we hate what we see
The future for you and me
I’m afraid we will never see
For only our savior has the key

Very nice Paul!
If my future is anything like the past, I don't think I want to see it.
Nice write!!

A very thought provoking poem indeed, Paul.
I think that we all hold the key to our own future, although we usually don't know it.
But as for seeing our own future...
I know that I would be tempted, but when I really think about it...I think its more fun to just see what happens.
I also think that there is probably a very good reason why our future remains hidden from us, but I don't claim to be wise enough to know what it is.

Exceptional write Paul!!

"To tempt fate and know what will be
What if we hate what we see
The future for you and me
I’m afraid we will never see
For only our savior has the key"

That is a very fitting ending to this piece!

loner... Thank You very much !!!

Krishankins... Thanks for the comment.
I hope your future is better than your past
You sure live in a beautiful place, my wife and I have been to San Diego about 3 times.

Diamond... I really appreciate your comments
Glad you liked it.

Lyra... Again thanks for the kind words, I think most of us would like to see the future
but at the same time I believe it is better left unknown.

ethome... Glad you liked it. Thanks for the kind words.

To All... Since becoming a part of Forums I have been inspired by all of you, I was in a rut but now after reading poems by so many people the wheels in my little bitty brain have started turning again and I owe it all to each of you.  Thanks Everyone... Paul

(smiles) Like Lyra said, it is indeed tempting yet I believe if we live each day to the fullest and then invite the future in on its own terms, then it is something to relish and cherish much more! (big hugggssssss) This is awesome, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Paul, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
