He was born, embedded,
in the clay of Texas dust.
Sonovacotton farmer--
slave to winds of trust.
He remembered the Great Depression,
as times once good gone bad...
He was the sonovacotton farmer--
he shared everything he had.
He never knew a blister.
His hands were always tough.
His hands knew rope and splintered wood.
His hands knew gentleness of love.
He learned to read in haystacks
when the feeding time was done.
Homer--Illiad--in a loft--
always reading, on the run...
He fed the chicks and milked the cows,
and he had fancy dreams...
of Zeus and Hera and the gods
and all the goddesses redeemed.
*   *   *
After his death, I kept for mine
a treasure much more dear than mink.
A New York Times crossword puzzle--
completed--in red ink.

I love this!! I have always loved the little things. They are the ones that mean the most to me. It seems that you have the same feeling.

You are really terrific at writing character studies, Karen...
I hope you do more of them.
