the swollen glut of anatomy
I keep below my chest
an interest rare,
but it was there,
when head faltered, failed to crest

I gazed at sudden clarity
       the dimple spoke forgotten dreams
and falling through the hole
       I found what Mother Ocean means
through the hole
       I found my missing ocean dreams

the empty socket used to be
connected to the soup
ugly sure,
this ropey door,
a fragile, purple, fibrous loop

slow-motion floating royalty
       I stared at nothing like a fool
with my tiny hand around
       the avenue to primal pool
my tiny hand
       waving like a primal fool

exquisite beings that we were once
and never could foresee
the hard and dry,
the serpent's lie,
godforsaken reality

splashing universal joy
       we laughed and played at being pure
but it really couldn't last
       screaming at the closing door
it couldn't last
       furious and screaming pure

the little guy is lost to me
although it must have been
for I was told,
by useless fold
a tragic tale of fallen skin

awareness running back to me
       regretful trips it to the floor
and with a painful weary sound
       decides it wants to live some more
