The Nearness Of You
To my wife...

Always near, ever close by
In the warm, tender feel of summer morning,
Often without a tiny hint of warning,
You are the glow of sunrise sky.

A walk in the garden, mind in reflection
Your lovely face appears when my glance goes
To softness of a newly-awakened rose
Blushing in full-petalled perfection.

The splendid sun king broadcasts while
Sending waves of sunshine born of fire;
Songbirds' rhythmic roundelays in choir
Ignite me like your amorous smile.

End of day; and right on cue,
Melodies fill the moving space: reprise
Of love lyrics in exciting keys;
Life swings with the nearness of you.
