I Will Fight No More, Forever

"I will fight no more forever"
the wise Indian Chief had said
wails from a mourning village
they are weeping for their dead.

Smoke rises from the ashes
in dawn of early morn
a nation broken hearted
            their spirits being torn.

Somewhere in the distance
war drums fill the air
wreaking havoc through their land
their hope had turned into despair.

See the buffalo rising
             hear the white wolf cry
listen to white mans thunder
echoes in the evening sky.

The spirits of yesterday walk
listen closely to their tale
               the legends are not forgotten
and their heritage will prevail.

If you listen closely
in the quiet of remember

you can hear his words
"I will fight no more           forever....."

(big hugggsssss) Oh Donna, being a huge part of the Cherokee Indian ancestry, this broke my heart reading this to imagine all the pain my family went through and being forced and banished from their land! (sad sigh) This is powerfully and sadly written, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Donna, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Noah, thanks.  This quote came from
Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce.  I learned of him years ago in high school, read of him,
and have remembered....
thanks again.

The jingler was most interested in your lovely words about Chief Joseph, a subject very close to jingler's heart. Watch post for "The Return of Joseph". A piece I wrote with a most mystic story.

I don't know your friend, but they sure have good taste when it comes to heritage.

Nice to see it come back around.  Beautiful are the words you bring to us once spoken by a very remarkable man.

'...The spirits of yesterday walk

These words are so important for all us, whether Native American or whatever our background. We must never let the legends and tales of our ancestors die with them. This was so beautifully written and the pictures added so much to it. Thank you, I truly enjoyed it.

We all have our causes and beliefs
but the fight is needless and is never really resolved when the heart is broken.

Wonderful expression Donna~

Great poem. Thank you for bringing out the best in Native american Spirit. Sad, but true in every stanza you write in this poem. Very well done.
