In Your Memory

Sometimes it never really mattered,
You know,
Under what guise I might pen my thoughts,
As you should find me,

For you would follow my footsteps along
Sandy shores to the pier
Or view a landscape with your eye searching
A horizon for the lines of the house
You had built
In your dreams

You never gave me a line
That I could not twist into a new thought
And you spoke lightly
Of your impending demise,
You were not afraid.

You colored life with a city’s horizon
In glass and gleam,
Noisy footsteps and family gatherings,
Losses by fire
And fired memories.

In your waking moments
You touched so many, tenderly and
Jovially, so that even cowboys
Would want to visit the city
Now and then,
If you were there.

You danced with many and
Enjoyed all of the words left by
The Moths and Moonbeams, but
You enjoyed butterflies
And silly smiles as well.

You said you would be gone
Just for a few days ~
Getting better, you said,
But we knew, we knew.

You once said I fit my name,
But then you called me
Erin,
And, find me smiling, it still fits.

A few months before your last leave
You reminded one and all
It is all right to begin, and all right to end
But you just wanted everyone to know that
You, and we, should do it with class.

I hope I never stop giving, with class,
So that I might give on, in your memory.
~*~

You colored life with a city’s horizon
In glass and gleam,

I love your imagery here, Lady in White...
Being a city person, myself...
I know that "glass and gleam" are the perfect words for a city's horizon.

As always, you mirror my thoughts...
Bill was the one who introduced me to Lauren...with the scare of losing her this weekend...one could not help but be reminded of his grace. I like to believe he had a hand in us be given more time with her.
this is perfect and lovely...he inspired beauty in your words many times.
thank you for the keeper.

I Knew this was for Bill before I reached the end of the read, as memory tears swelled up.  Thank you for this reminder of a friend and loving man.

It's no secret that I admired him from day one and still hold fond memories of the lessons learned from him and passing of the crown many many times.  Beautifully penned tribute and one that is being read from the stars.

Dear Lady in White, though I never had to chance to know him, I am sure he was a very special man, from this very beautiful poem you've shared.
