She appeared suddenly from a lonely river
somewhere out of a faceless stream
She was travelled sage and street wisdom
her eyes lacking mercy's gleam
Over cobblestones of time she sought peace
taking roads to places where direction hides
and where silky satin gowns once full
flowed in reflections of a happy time

She was borrowed time passing
the elusive song of sadness
hidden in a gentle rain
the reason why the blues happen
in the heartaches of yesterday

She landed softly on my cushioned eyesight
a lost angel searching for my kind regards
She stood tall beside my garden wall
with a soul that reached far beyond her heart
Through the strains of yesteryear she bent my mind
And in her laugh of question she surfed insight waves
while she exposed her thoughts of a space afar
since her visions had turned to mad decay.

She spoke of tender love and children fair
of bedtime stories and Dr Zeus
when she heard her young son's laugh and daughter's sigh
and shared passion with her man and taught the golden rule
She'd been wandering since a fire in 83
looking for answers to the rising of a blue moon
where her dreams were consumed in a cruel storm
and when her heart closed all it's rooms.

She was borrowed time passing
the elusive song of sadness
hidden in a gentle rain
the reason why the blues happen
in the heartaches of yesterday

She left me in a state of worried wonder
an empty place where questions still remain
and I can't help but wish her a tender closing
everytime I hear her voice in a gentle rain.
Somewhere upon a mountain of forgiveness
there's a truth I can't seem to uncover
from the comfort of my easy chair
knowing her heart was lost to crushing pain
I think humbled thoughts much more aware

She was borrowed time passing
the elusive song of sadness
hidden in a gentle rain
the reason why the blues happen
in the heartaches of yesterday

ethome, sounds like you're gonna carry this one around with you for quite awhile. This memory (if it is one) seems quite unshakable.
I love the bittersweet.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Eric, this is sooooooo sadly beautiful, sweet friend, I know these kind of feelings ever so well and my heart goes out to those who share her heartache and I pray once again the spirit of the child in them can laugh and smile again with loving care! (sigh) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Eric, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

sometimes the blues
are all that's left to do...
it's just a soul song wailing
about a long shot, failing.
Sometimes there's nothing left to do
but feel the pain and sing the blues.

(sorry about that "e"--wish I knew a guy who could play some "slide" for me )

This is another beauty... When you gonna send me that demo, eh?

Ya know .......... I am thinkin' it is about time I get a tape of all your songs like this.  Hmmmmmmmm, do ya do tours. LOL  Seriously Eric, this just screams "Blues" right off the page and I gotta tell ya, I am loving where you have taken your creations to.  Your pen always shone in a light of it's own that was always magnificant but now it is burning a hue of exceptional.  Superbly done and a keeper for sure.  Oh, and about that tape.........I WASN'T kiddin'.

oh baby!!!
E-this is a perfect example of what made me love your poetry back on first read...this is classic Ethome...the bittersweet...the blues..the poetic ballad kissed with cadence, harmony ...the choruses of pure poetry and melodics...your gift for touching each write with a tender edge of longing...and the connections made with someone no matter how brief the contact.
This is a beautiful, soulful write Eric...
very well done...I do so  enjoy when you take the inspire higher!!
We've talked about "Gords Gold"...this is one for Eric's Exceptional collection.
Waay cool my Poetpal...you are way cool

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much ...
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch.

Oh man, am I glad that I found this beauty again.  Some write without understanding, some understand without writing......you understand, you write, and THEN you share your vision in beauties like this.  It is no wonder your name is sought out in here.  I am always amazed at how you take each one of your posts and consistantly sing them so flawlessly.  Must be a golden guitar you lap between your arms.  Excellent!!!!

Undeniably superb, this is... I can't remember the last time I read anything I loved this much. It is truly outstanding.

I wish I could hear it sung. I know it would be simply fabulous!

I want to thank everyone!
Your comments and kind thoughts fill my heart with respect for each and every one of you!
I must make mention of my perception of this craft....
However, poetry is language to experiment with, freed from the restraints of general customs of syntax, where speech or writing is evaluated according to its conformity to grammatical rules. Poetry provides a place where you can more easily access that part of the brain where creative consciousness awaits. With that in mind the poet can experiment with thoughts and images, such as the way you view a room, landscape, glass of water or bowl of fruit etc. Much the same as the visual artist would capture the moment on canvas. If a person uses this desire and ability to change the way they see or do something it tends to change their perspective with a more independent view of all possibilities. As we grow older it seems,if we let it happen, that we become more habitual in the way we see or do something and we tend to lose the freshness of our perspective. Poetry becomes the vehicle for breaking away from the confines of conventional language, a way to let go of the grip of logic and enter the world of ecstatic creativity. The need to explore fully and honestly these avenues, never leaves the mind of the poetic thinker, seeking to develop his own poetics, his sense of what he's trying to do with language, and why. In this group I rest my heart as a down to earth but striving to be tender poet and lover of the craft as I see it unfold before me.....

Thanks again!

The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up
spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to
re-language historie
