Coming Home

I've always written poetry
since a tender age
in fits and starts and goes and stops
I've written love and rage

each night my Daddy taught me words
instead of bedtime stories
I learned to read and learned to spell
with meanings we would quarry

three years ago, my dear first husband
died before his time
leaving me sad and lonely
I filled my emptiness with words of rhyme

and tragically, the very next year
my older son suddenly died
his life swept away so fast
there was no time for goodbye

I hadn't written poetry
in so very many years
but now it was my therapy
an outlet for my tears

I wrote and wrote and wrote some more
words filled the empty spaces
of those whom I had loved and lost
my quill wrote in those places

I'd carry pen and paper
everywhere I'd go
it bulged from all of my pockets
but set my eyes aglow

something new to live for
oh how I love to write
reminders of my childhood
when my Dad taught me words each night

I discovered computer poetry
while websurfing, one day
and ended up at a friendly place
they called Moontown Cafe

and there, I posted my poems
for the better part of a year
until they changed the website
and made it all unclear

replying became difficult
and the smileys went away
I now knew that I must move on
and leave Moontown Cafe

I'd made so many friends there
we're still friendly to this day
but it was no longer any fun
and so I couldn't stay

I tried some other websites
but none of them brought cheer
until two of my dear friends from Moontown
said "come to Piptalk, you'll love it here"

So I must thank Marsha and Kethry
for bringing me to this house of blue
a wonderful poetic home
of warmth and love so true

you truly are my family
how dearly I love you all
I can sit at my computer for hours
and read your writings on these blue walls

I remember your first post Lyra, and it must have been either Kethry or Marsha who said, "they were so glad you made it here"  To this very day no truer words have ever been spoken.  You bring so much luster to these pages with your polish and shine and of course....that dear heart of yours that touches so deeply and warms us all.

Love and hugs for being that special person that you are!

I used to do that, maybe a habit I should pick back up.  Love the story...so glad you're here!!!!!

Lyra,
You mean I have to thank Mushy & Keth! Cool!!! I am so glad that you came here. I expect to see you here for a long time to come.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I love this, Lyra. You are such a wonderful part of this place, and have added so much love and caring and strength.
PS I stopped at Moontown Cafe once too, but didn't stay.

What a sorrow-filled and yet wonderful story of how you found Passions, Lyra. I'm sorry they took those smilies away at the other sight, but if it means that brought you here, then it was truly fortunate for "us" ... (and if you have any smilie requests ... you just send them my way, OK?  They won't disappear, I promise ...

Best wishes,
/Kit

Lyra,
There is no one more welcome than you sweet dear. You write with words that are ever so clear. You are high on my butterfly list
and that you continue I must insist.

(big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I am so sorry for your losses and my heart goes out to you, yet I believe deep down with all my heart your son and your husband will always remeber you and they are so happy you're writing because they always wanted you to share your love to the world and be happy, and they are cheering you on! (sigh) You will always be one of my best friends, sweet Lyra, I for one always love to read your lovely poems and would hate to miss even one! Lyra my dearest friend, nay my dearest heart sister and hanger of the stars light, your writing is always special you have a way of filling a soul with smiles.

Ever since we met, there on Moontown, surrounded by smilies, and you know me and my smilies, I love them to distraction. I knew I had found a very special and treasured friend. It was with deep delight that I said come on home to PiP’s there is always a welcome there. and the smilies are amazing too, thanks Kit You are home indeed darling heart and you enhance this isle of poetry’s delight, by your presence and your poetry. THANK YOU for coming here darling girl.

As for this utter delight as always beloved heart I love it love it love it. The flow perfect the rhyme is wonderful and I love it
Love and warm stuff

Thanks Duncan...
I still carry it wherever I go, except now it has become even more sophisticated.  I carry a notebook, pens, dictionary and thesaurus in a tote bag.  Usually, I keep it in my car, but if I am going to be someplace for an extended period of time....the whole thing comes with me.
I used to try to write poetry while I was getting chemo, except that I always fell asleep and never got anything written and poor David would have to schlep my poetry bag out to the car for me because I was so tired afterward, that I could barely walk.

Anvrill....thank you and I am so glad that you found your way here also.
We have a female squirrel who has claimed our livingroom deck as her second home...
Her nest is in the maple tree which overhangs the deck (the one I wrote the poem "Emeralds in the Dark" about) and we have taken to calling her "Mrs.Squirrel".
If you marry Mr.Squirrel....is that what we should call you?

I am so glad you are here and so glad to have met you. Your life the last few years has not always been happy, but you always bring a piece of joy to those who read your rhyme's.

It is my experience, that writing is a great release of emotions. Keep releasing my friend. Hugs, Marti

My life has actually been happy in spite of many unhappinesses...
I guess it has been bittersweet.
Meeting David and finding Passions (pardon the pun here), has been the sweet part.
Without David and this website, I think it would have been total misery...
I am also glad that you found us...and I am thankful for your friendship.
