There was a story in our local paper
about a lady who has fed the seagulls
near her home for over the last 20 years.
It inspired me to write this.

* * * * *

They come in search of food
As they fly along the shore
They see her familiar figure
She's been here many times before

The lady of the seagulls
Feeds the birds here every day
She's relied upon by many
For just a while she'll stay

Some gulls have been in battle
As they hobble on one leg
They squawk to get her attention
The only way they know to beg

Her feathered friends are many
How she loves being near the sea
The perfect place for contemplation
Here her life seems trouble free

When her basket is finally empty
En masse they'll take to the skies
A look of quiet contentment
Can be seen in the dear lady's eyes

I am in motion
I am blue
Love is an ocean
I'm anchored in you

~Enjoyed this! And living by the sea myself have in my mind the image of a local man who does the same, and when passing this all you see is a mass of gulls surrounding from the ground to hovering above his head and short bursts of him there in the middle. Must be some hungry birds. Not sure I'd enjoy so much being on the inside, but it sure is something watching from the outside. Neat write. Take care. *Peace.

And there she is day after day feeding her beloved birds. Such a beautiful picture you have painted with your words Sue.

Thank you, I loved this.  Hugs, Marti

And I am suddenly reminded of Mary Poppins. Where would we be without the bird ladies of the world and all the poets of the world?

Sue:  Delightful story!  We love to go feed the seagulls which inhabit Lake Coeur d'Alene but it's only once a week.  They fare well however, as there is someone there feeding most every day.  This lady is really commited to her job.
