She broke as smoothly as a record,
determined fragments planned in song.
The etch of melody in black shapes.
The lightless hold of shineless weight.

I cannot identify her.
Her label tore and stuck to itself.
I cannot find her lullaby lips.
I cannot feel her sleeve, her kiss.

The brushback of dust, can't recall.
The lift of stylus, can't recall.
The slide of needle, can't recall.
The encode of silence, can't recall.

I need to hear her fragile voicings
among the static of her mind.
But I can't seem to glue a circle.
I only seem to leave us behind.

She said burn ... together.

Very yummy. I am now suddenly having urges to run downstairs and put More onto the record player.

Mmm, vinyls.... Nothin' better. Hence the reason why my vinyl collection seems to be growing at least as quickly as my CD collection.

Now write something without a mopey edge fr once, wouldja?

*kisses* Love you, squirrely boy.

Actually, the poem was inspired by pondering how on earth I'm going to get your Cure vinyl shipped out to Canada without breaking, as I was falling asleep.

It's also inspired by listening to Sisters of Mercy with you in Calgary.

And c'mon, I'm Mr. Mope!

Love y' too.

Um...Mikey? if you go to an office supply store? You will find packaging just made for that very purpose! (vinyl junkie here) I loved the poem. It also reminded me of how sad I was the day I realized my kids did not know what a phonograph was...I still remember lugging mine around, in the case, with those neat little buckles and handy dandy shoulder strap (hot pink) grin...

I have missed you guys, too, btw.

Well Mike, you've turned a "shipping concern" into an awesome poem! I'd write about the things I think of before I fall asleep, but I'd probably get kicked off of here!!

A shipping problem....Only you, Mr.Squirrel....could turn something so mundane, into a beautiful poem.

I have lots of old vinyls...
even some really old 45's and I also have an old turntable...
and, antique as they all are...they are remnants of my youth, which means that I too, am an antique but not worth nearly as much as they are.

We always enjoy yr mind, Mr. Mope. And I'm going to mightily enjoy The Top if it arrives here in only one piece.
