When night falls and the sun goes down on me
spilling stars through the shades
restless behind closed eyes in dreams too good to last

I imagine you there beside me
slipping between the layers
fanning the breeze beneath soft sheets

Smooth like silk, overlapping
folding in the curves
your lips trailing down my spine
cradled in the moonlight

Whispering sweet nothing's
kicking off the blankets that keep us covered
throwing caution to the wind

Stirring up the heat
if we could only stay that way
caressing your face while you sleep
and paint a sunrise of our own

Perhaps to leave you warm pleasantries
pouring cream in your coffee
to be the bud in your vase on a silver tray
and serve you up real lady like

Alas, you leave as quickly as you came
relentless in the heat of the night
simmering just below the surface
with no relief in sight.

Steaming behind shower doors
I've come as clean as I can be
but there is always a residue of you
lingering throughout the day

I dream of seeing you clearly
through the hazy mist condensing on my mirror
that does more than leave my make up running

I've grown accustom to the fact
you won't be here unless I come before
leaving a little something for you

Sometimes it seems so real
I can almost taste you, feel you,
true to form, good to the last drop
savoring every sip.

In reality we're worlds apart
and you've no clue when I need you the most
left to question what these feelings are all about

Wide awake and fearful,
floating in and out
of dreams too good to last.

And if this was sweet nothing .... I would be amazed by everything else as well ....
Dreams and reality do share a fine line but worlds have been known to collide.

Well written!!

(sigh) Oh Lori, I can understand these feelings too, you are not alone for sometimes I wonder that all of that is for too, though I believe He makes us dream for a reason and while it can be a headaching mystery it is worth the wait in the end and all your dreams will come true! (kiss on cheek) This is powerfully honest, sweet friend, I LOVE IT, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lori, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I just want to be in that scene you painted with your pen.

When did you go and get so good? Hope I can catch up...dang.

I love that verse the most but there were so many just as good. Great write Lori, this was excellent.

How blessed we are when our sweetest dreams become reality to hold and enjoy every day...beautifully done Lori, keep dreaming and one day you may find that reality your heart so desires! Never give up! ((hugs))

Geez, I relate to this so completely, sometimes it amazes me how so many poets write exactly what is in my heart.
Beautiful write, always.

CocoBaci~ Thank you sweets, there is always another dream and another happy ending, therefore there are no tears in the end.

Dark Stranger~ What can I say when I'm under the influence, in my dreams that is.  Thanks

traci~ Glad you came by and liked what you read, and especially for leaving your nice reply.

Craig~ It is a fine line indeed, I really like what you said about worlds colliding, it happens to the best of us.  I'm so happy to see your name here, and am touched by your kind words.

loner~ I appreciate the fact that you did, thanks.

Maureen~ Sometimes they are just as good, perhaps because we can run with them and take them as far as we want to go...providing we don't wake up too soon!   Thanks and hugs~

Hi Paul~ That lonesome heart of mine brings out the best in me... occasionally, other times it's not always a pretty picture.     I am what I am! Thank you kind Sir~

Kethry~ I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the weave, sometimes I go back and the flow is completely lost to me.  I guess that has to do with being my worst enemy.  Nice to see you here Keth~

Dear Noah~ You always hit a nerve with me, powerfully honest is not always in my best interest, but I do thank you for recognizing the fact and complimenting me for it.  *smile*

Lyra~ You warm my heart!  It seems to me when we write our words take us backwards or forwards, surrounding us with emotions and the events taking place in that time we spent.  Thank you always~

Amy~ It nice to see you here, and I will never be able to thank you enough for your encouraging words.  Hugs to you..

Larry~ You're making my cheeks all rosy, you are just too good to me Larry.  Your kind words go a long way, believe me!!!  Thank you dear Man~

Mark~Dreams go both ways I guess,  but I will always prefer them sweet and sweeter.     Thanks for being here.

Hi Dulci~  No doubt, one day I will!   I might be a dreamer but I have no intentions of giving up on them.  Life is too short to let our nightmares get the best of us.   Thank you for your unconditional understanding, and for sharing your kindness with me.....It means a lot.

Sandra~     I have experienced the same thing, it's almost like someone is reading my mind....on the same day, same time, same wave length.  That's just one of the many beauties of poetry...I'm glad this spoke to you and that I'm not the only one.  Warm hugs and cool breezes to you~

James~  I thank you twicely....for being so nicely.  I know the title is lacking some thought.....it is all that and more... I should have called it 'sweet stuff'      Thank you for making me smile~

oh, Lor, this was a poem that took my breath away.

When you write in that story-poetic form,
you really hit your stride, poetically.
It is true, sweet friend, that distance adds
to the frustration....on both sides.

(working hard here in Indy- guess which sale
was postponed again?  maybe next week)

You are STILL one of my favorite poets, LA.
You got the stuff, Gal!

First of all I want to say I'm not fishing...

But isn't it strange how we don't see ourselves the way others see us (read us)
I thank you Jeff for those kind words of yours and always nudging me to keep pursuing what often escapes me.
