Wanting This, Needing That

I want
a brand-spanking millenium kitchen,
equipt with brushed chrome
appliances, lacquered stone tiles
and funky, beaded light fixtures.

I need your illuminating smile
under the water-stained
ceiling and exposed
plumbing.

I want
a boudoir; a love nest of
raw silk pillows bouncing on down
duvets, rosewood built-ins, crown moldings
and chests full of satin lingerie.

I need
your touch, like flannel pajamas
under cotton sheets,
when the heating oil runs low.

I want
sculpted pines, cultured orchids
bordering venetian slate walkways
while the sun dries the manicured
boxwood.

I need
a daisy, tickling my nose,
plucked from a clump of weeds
by the broken gate and
rusty gutter.

I want your expensive love
done on a budget, your
million dollar look
in denim.

And I need you now,
without want,
only need.

and how does the garden grow,
Sweet Chanson,
in the unblinking gaze
du soleil?

With desire of more sunshine,
with want of tears to soothe root toes?
or with the need for life
that you have in such abundance?

This is exquisite poetry, D.
Without a doubt, one of your best writes
and one i shan't forget.

I love the way you wrote this, Chanson...
Want and need truly are 2 sides of the same coin, and you wrote that so beautifully.

Your wants and needs don’t exactly match,
But wants are dreams
And needs are reality,
Wants of dreams are slinking gracefully across the room
Draped in a red feather boa with a glass of wine in hand
To a long lingering kiss
Needs in reality is a fast Hug a sip of ice tea
And keeping up with the laundry.

Enjoyed the write MFFF

As I read this, I kept wanting to say, me too.  Give me the simple whispered, "I love you", over diamonds any day.  Wonderful poem!

Heck all I want is a stream in my living room! LOL  Wonderfully dramatized look at the aspects of wants and needs.  The simple things in life do bring the most pleasure, don't they?  Enjoyed the read much.

That they do, Mark. I would like a stream in my livingroom! Well, at the very least, a water feature. It would be so Fen Shui! Give me time. I'll make one. *L

Thanks bunches for reading. *s

The title caught my eye, and I read with much interest as I have trouble discerning the difference between wants and needs...this is a delight to read. Well done and thoughtful!

Serenity and Enchantress-- Thank you very much for reading and enjoying this little piece.

I agree, seperating needs from wants is sometimes not easy. It was a self- introspection and I learned from it.

Thanks again! *s
