***The Poetry Police***

This is about a website where I used to post my poetry. They believed that poetry should never be written with the feelings and their modus operandi was to tear poems apart. No one was allowed to say a kind word about anyone else's poem.

Invisible uniforms wield their power
through fingered keyboards and screens
didactic despots of meter and rhyme
hide their faces, ashamed to be seen

digital monarchs of metaphor
crowned heads of poetrythink
hurl poisoned darts of admonishment
at bards of emotional ink

intellect rules, in this lofty domain
those who dare to write with their passion
are stripped of their words and their voices
and banned in undignified fashion

exiled forever, beyond the great wall
along with their martyred writs
bards of emotion who took the fall
now look for friendlier crits

poets disliked by the fuhror
are rapidly put in their place
no comments appear neath their work
their creations forever displaced

and remarks which dare challange authority
will be hastily put to death
slashed from the page with the vengeance of rage
swiftly deprived of their breath

as cliques of elite on the throne
slash poems with daggers of hate
and writers insulted for reasons unknown
flee this poetry police state
*****

(big hugggssssssss) I'm so sorry you had to go through all of this before, sweet friend, those poetry sites are truly false and inundated with jealousy and greed, for poetry is all from the heart and soul and to censor thoughts you share is so wrong! (sigh) This is excellent, sweet friend, you belong here at Passions where we will always be happy to read what you write from your golden heart, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I remember when you first posted this Lyra, and I went to the site to see if it was really this bad, and I was saddened to see that it was. How wonderful that we have this friendly place. For poetry is different things to different people. I just like to express my feelings, and certainly don’t want to be ripped apart because I haven’t used the words somebody else would use. There is room for all kinds of different styles of poetry, and expressions of feeling. I like the respect the poets here give to all the others.

Noah...thanks so much for your reply.
I think critiquing is good...it helps our poetry to grow.  But what they did at that site was not critiquing at all.
Most of the time, they would just tell us how bad our poetry was...without giving any reason...and of course if anyone ever said anyone's poetry was good.....the hammer would crash down on their head.

I, too, remember when you first posted this.  I could not imagine such a site, but one look, and *poof* I came home where I belong.  Ron allows us so many options, to critique or not critique, a simple question if we so choose, courtesy, should we not.  I think you should post this once every four months or so, Lyra, just to let the new folks understand just how fortunate us "old timers" feel to have such a comfortable place to be among new, and old, friends...

Thanks so much, Paul...
I am sure glad that you found Nancy's website and that you ended up here instead of at a site like that one...
I would have hated to miss out on your excellent poetry.

The moderators actually have the nerve to call themselves "the czars of merriment"
