Aged beyond antiquity, lost centuries of time withstood,
the manuscript lay undisturbed, hid deep within the wooded glade.
Strewn 'round, the temples' ruins displayed no hint of evil, nor of good,
and would for eons have remained, if from the path I had not strayed.

Oh, rue the day! Bemoan the loss of innocence that fateful morn,
when unbeknownst to me within those mouldered pages I would find,
dark secrets of an ancient race, and from all sanity be torn,
plunged into madness, in the space of time it takes to write these lines!

For there lay incantations black, to chill the blood and freeze the soul.
Too late , I thought of turning back and foolishly did then recite,
one ghoulish phrase in foreign tongue which seemed as if it's only goal
would so condemn whomever read those words to think that they could write.

For had I only known this dread disease would grip both heart and mind
and rip asunder any notions one may have for normal life,
then I, my friends, would not have sought in vain for answers there to find,
I'd blundered into that which tempers every joy with so much strife.

Now peer out from a cell constructed of the mind, no less the real
than if I had been imprisoned behind solid bars of steel.

A disease best known to all in here,
you have the "Writer's Curse," I fear...

Sunshine,
So, you're telling me it's worse than I had feared? Not only highly contagious ( I think I caught it right here on PIP ! ) but also completely incurable!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!

he he he... by the infection your describing, I'd say that a lot of people on the site have caught it as well . I love this poem so much, so well written; somepeople critisise a non-traditional sonnet but I think a extra verse (18 lines instead of 14) makes a very easy to read well structured poem with enough length to make the point . I enjoyed your poem a lot .
