Expectations

Please don't expect so much from me,
Don't set me up to fail;
I can't accomplish all you ask,
I'm human, and I'm frail.

Look past your expectations,
Try to see reality …
Attempt to understand
The scope of all you ask of me.

Could anyone achieve these goals
That you have firmly set?
If I were someone else,
Would you expect them to be met?

Would you have set the bar so high,
For someone else to reach?
Would you have pushed and prodded them
To meet the heights you preach?

Look in the mirror … talk to me,
And see beyond the glass;
Forgive me for mistakes I've made,
For all that's come to pass.

Be satisfied with who I am,
With who I've come to be;
Don't push until I lose my faith
In you … as well as me.

Dear Kit, a lovely read, I have missed your words over the time, in what we all expect off you, we are never disappointed, you give passion to try to be better.

Much enjoyed.

Kit darling heart this is perfect and so very very true, sometimes we do expect too much and then we find we cannot measure up to our own expectations we are terribly disappointed. YOU never fail to write such amazing truth, wit humour and depth. I have never known a poem of yours that doesn’t shine as a beacon of light to any aspiring writer. YOU shine darling heart you really do. This is superb writing and I love it utterly, as always the phrases flow down the page in smooth and truthful cascade.

Absolutely perfect writing  and I love it well written and always special from you

Love and warm stuff
As always
Mushy

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the eathquake wind and fire

It's hard for anyone to understand how someone who freely offers forgiveness and understanding and encouragement to so many refuses one person that same graciousness, refuses them any mistake at all. *S* But cutting ourselves some slack is harder than scaling Mount Everest wearing flipflops... even when we know the refusal to do so is as dangerous as such an attempt would be. *S* This is superb writing, Kit... if I didn't avoid the mirror, I'd tape this to it. *S*

This poem speaks in such clear crisp language, Kit...
and it speaks tons of wisdom and truth...

I think everyone can relate to these feelings.
Thanks for sharing them with us.

Ah Kit!  I know so many
that should send this out to others
as a present of good intention,
and many more who need to post
it firmly on their own mirrors!

Well done!

Mirror mirror on the wall
Who takes my challenges best of all

Why of course there is only to be one
The poet of expectations ready for fun. LOL

Yeppers, you guessed it.  Time for a challenge and I am sure you "EXPECTED" sooner or later anyway didn't you.

However, first there is this jewel of a poem.  Your cadence and rhythm lend much to the enjoyment and the understanding of your words.  Yes, sometimes we expect more from the ones we care most about but fail to see the damage that we can cause by doing so.  You expressed this quite well and I very much enjoyed the read.
======================

Challenge time ....... if you are up to it anyway.  Suddenly, I have a hunger to go to the ZOO but find that all the animals look like foods to me.   How do YOU see me describing this trip in RHYME divine?  Good luck and I won't even watch the clock on this one okay? LOL

Isn’t it true…all too often we expect far more of ourselves, than we ever would of others. Love the way you’ve written this Kit….now, are you going to take your own advice????

Kit,
And how much better off we are to settle the expectations issue. You know every time I see a poem from you...I come prepared to make it a keeper. I have my album and then yours(also my album)!

Show you care to those you love...today.

I'm so sorry that my posts and responses have been so few and far between the last few months, but I'm so appreciative of all of your wonderful and encouraging comments everyone. I wasn't able to get on line until last evening, and there you all are … giving me a great big smile … thank you sweet poet friends.

I've been missing you all a great deal. Hopefully the work monster will let up a little down the road, and I'll be back into my old (and happy) poet routine!

Gentle Spirit:  Many hugs in return, and a big thank you and good morning to you Gentle Spirit!

JamesMichael:  So true James … sometimes it's difficult to accept our imperfections, but always good to recognize them and move on. Thank you for the kind words!

Sudhir Iyer:  Thank you so much Sudhir … it's so wonderful to see you. I hope you are doing well, my friend!

Janet Marie :  LOL …  this gal's hair is definitely getting grayer these last few months JM … I've missed reading and commenting the last while, though I've been running around in the background in the forums, and keeping up wherever I can. I'd love some monkey bizness to break the work-wheel! Thanks for the sweet comment gator-gal. Missing you … big heart hugs right back atcha!

Thank you for the sweet words, and you've gotta KNOW I've missed your sweet words AND your challenges!  Sooooooooo, I will not let this pass me by. I will hop to it this weekend, and see what on earth I can do to meet this marvelously unique request, lololol …

your subject, sad...serious...humor,
you just have such a way with words that
leaves me feeling i've read something
awesome...which i just have. this is
full of such intense emotion and a
powerful message. i really felt this
piece deep within. and only you know how
to take words on a piece of paper (or
screen lol) and make them "real". thank
you for continuing to share your
wonderful gift with us, no matter how
busy your life gets!
love ya.
