Cold Turkey
By: Noah Eaton
7/10/02

Look at all the antibiotics and anesthetics
Look at the equating of honesty with hypocrites
Look at those who find smiles to be superstitions
Look at saints changing their names to seek their own salvation

Look in the hospital where always rings an answering bell
Look into these halls where sleepless children search for a wishing well
Look through the antependium to see the fallen movie star travail
Look in rooms where childrens lost innocence can't even be learned again in Braille

And when you watch the summer come
But go before you can net your butterfly dreams
So there's not any nectar remaining
And when your life is a salad buffet
But there's no dressing for marinade
And you're left with that cold turkey again...

Look up to see a child's balloon sailing away like an unknotted regret
Look down abashedly at every one in a million taken down in russian roulette
Look around at the sight at tomorrows hard distaff
Look at the sight of another looking back on all of this just to laugh

And when you watch the summer come
But go before you can net your butterfly dreams
So there's not any nectar remaining
And when your life is a salad buffet
But there's no dressing for marinade
All you're left with is that cold turkey again

Just when I let go of the trapeze
Was the time when I saw everything become blurry
Just when I thought it was too hard to handle
They strap an apron over my chest and hand me a ladle
Stirring through the soup of yesterday...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Shakira
