state of confusion

Uprooted

As we trudge through thick sand,
I tell you,
I feel most at home here.
You stop, shocked, consider me anew,
point out this beach’s seedy nature -
its trashy, neon ugly bars
pretending to be restaurants,
lean-tos peddling worthless baubles,
and a crowded boardwalk crushed with wild characters,
wilder after the plunging sun's
green flash.

You ask if we can leave now,
head to the purer shores
a few miles north.

Yes, but
I am drawn to this spot.
My childhood memories
were traced with driftwood
in this wet sand.
That bit of grassy cliff over there?
My first kiss: a boy named Clark Lampard,
when I was fourteen.
To walk the length of this crusty pier
always gives me direction.

I shrug.
There are answers here.
If I come back
often enough,
I might find them.

You open the car door for me,
driving me northward.

I am prepared to be uprooted to move to Canada. But I still enjoyed this poem.

Reminds me of the town where I was born, dead little town now but I always feel so comfortable there.  Enjoyed!

...and so it begins

Recognize and embrace
the moments your feet call
the ground home

because that may be the place
you began...

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Corinne, this is soooooo very sad, sweet friend, it saddens me thinking how things change too fast and how we never have the time to cherish what we grew up having and have to learn everything all over again and see where we used to set foot contaminated with change! (sigh) You depict the gloom of change so well here, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
