~Tears of Emptiness~

today is the second anniversary of Eric's death

I still taste the bitter truth of his death
something of his soul still lingers in the early hours
I remember his childhood
gifted to me...
this dark eyed innocence

he rummages through the rooms of my brain
dusting off the cobwebs of time
so that I may once again see him clearly

the toddler...who too soon grew to manhood
boldly, pushing aside the rules of society
brashly, stomping on tradition
so that his own freedom could be lived
his brilliance...a beacon to light his way

and now, as I place the flowers of love
upon his grave
the pain, once again becomes fresh
for this gifted child-man
his dark eyes, now shuttered
the circuits of his brilliance, severed
his light, once so luminous
no longer bathes his handsome face

my body trembles
with the tears
no mother should ever have to shed
the tears of emptiness
~

Some people do not deal with their
losses so graciously, but you, my
dear, I applaud, for without these,
we would never be able to share
your pain with you.

Hugging you with motherly arms...

There is nothing worse than a child dying before a parent. It is not the natural order of life and brings such sorrow. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Special hugs for you this day...Marti

Thanks so much for those thoughts, Marti...
I need them more than you know.  I am also waiting for the phone call with the results of my last biopsy right now....
so today is a double whammy for me.
We went out and did some errands and it turns out that my urologist called at 2 PM...and she doesn't usually call until late in the day when she's finished with all of her surgeries.  So now we are anxiously awaiting her call back, and I don't want to go to the cemetary until I hear from her first because I don't want to miss her again or I will be awake all night tonight...
I am very nervous right now because I keep thinking that if the results were good, she could have left that on the answering machine and she didn't.

Thanks so much for your hugs, Sue...
they help immensely...
I'm also still waiting for my urologist to call with the results of my last biopsy and I'm very nervous about that...
We went out for a while and I can't believe that she called at 2 PM....She never calls during the day...
except of course, if we go out.

God gave to us His Cherubim
To bless our trek on mortal shore.
A golden heart and smiling face
Bestowed on us eternal grace.
An angel now at heaven's door ~
Bequeathed to Him our Seraphim.

God Bless, Lyra

What a beautiful Mother's cry to be heard by everyone who gets a chance to read it Lyra.  He will be madly dusting off the cobwebs today, and that is what these anniversaries are for, getting in touch with your feelings, and the love felt.  My heart is with you today on "two counts" and may you be guided on both.  Huge hugs to you.

I have no children of my own, so I can't
possibly imagine what you must be going
through. Your wonderful poem gave me insight
as to how wonderfully your son affected
your life, it seems you are a very caring
and loving person too. Paul

Sharon...thanks so much for sending me your heart, all the way from Vancouver.
I can't believe I still haven't heard from Dr. Goodnews and it is 10:30 PM.
I figure that she either thinks its not all that important or its so important that she needs lots of time to talk to me and Mondays are usually a very busy surgery day for her.
In either case, I am not going to spend tomorrow sitting around and waiting for her call.  I have a lot of things to do tomorrow, and if she can't catch me...then she will just have to send me an email or leave me a message.  David thinks she wants to spend a lot of time talking me into having that miserable surgery....In that case, I just don't need to be here to get that call....right?

Thank you so much for reading my poem, Paul and also for taking the time to reply to it.
My son was a very special person...
he was actually a very long story and I have written many poems about him.
He was the only person ever to be admitted to the University of Michigan Medical School without an actual high school diploma.
He got kicked out of high school and ended up getting a GED.
I miss him terribly.
