To My Gram And My Dad

Old Rocking Chair

To what's simple and plain to life but rewarding to the soul
Are my memories of those who truly left their mark
The days move forward but I stroll with each of you in one hand
Just dwelling in what once was beneath memories arch...

Moments stain window panes from the rains of a road once traveled
Dedicated to the past that obsesses my everyday life
True to the seasons that so come and go
I find myself in your place in this presents fight...

Curved to the contour of the body and dedicated to the eyes
I am there just as you used to be
I go back in time to feel your soul to surround me here
That old rocking chair still has the way to haunt me...

The wood edged smoothly like the sands that water constantly runs upon
And, symbolized writing to a name etched in the bottom and heart, too
I take on the spirit of the ones who've graced this chair
And, with all my might try to preserve the days we went through...

Dark brown and with lines a deeper shade through it all
Like lighting when a storms on a roll in the air
I grasp hold of the arms to feel your hands in mine
And, inhale your breath, along with mine, in that chair...

I bow down to your presence as I take your seat
Give in to all of you running through me
To that old rocking chair I hold onto so I feel love
I feel you and everything a simple chair's made of....
