Awake, My Love!

Your tender eyes look deeply into mine
You reach your hand for comforting embrace
It is not I your tearful eyes define
But sorrow that is shadowed on your face

Awake, my love!, Awake for my behalf
Your heart has so much passion yet to give
If I could somehow make your spirit laugh
I’d show you how to now begin to live

You stand above the soil as teardrops seep
Into the earth before my granite stone
Do not let memory’s power ever keep
Your heart in darkened corners all alone

Awake, dear one! Please let your teardrops cease
So that I can at last go forth in peace

Elizabeth Santos

What a beautiful sonnet Liz. This is a unique perspective, with such sorrow and depth. I could clearly hear the whisper of a loved one reaching out from beyond to encourage the one they left behind. Beautifully written from all perspectives ... truly.

Best wishes and hugs
/Kit

What a lovely sonnet Liz, and did I ever tell you that you are so unique...so forgiving.  As this sonnet shows the wanting to give the departed an ability to go on as well giving that to one left behind.
