Old Love
By Larry Chadwick
Written for my aunt who got married last week.

If, per chance, you find love in your old age,
And make a decision to abandon your gilded cage,
Don’t let your children spoil the theft of your heart,
Go ahead and take those vows “until death do us part”.

Passing on love to assuage your adult child,
Would be worse than a heart attack, even though mild.
After all, you’re old enough to make decisions of your own,
Your children aren’t your parents even though they’re grown.

So if you decide to walk that matrimonial aisle,
I hope you both do it with a great big smile.
But don’t tell us if you consummate your love today,
That’s the one thing we don’t want to know anyway!

I think it's great when an older couple get married...my great grandfather married for the final time at 87.  I forget where they went on their honeymoon...maybe back to a private room at the home.

Very nice poem for your aunt, Larry. Old love is just as good as young love. I think.

Love is good at any time of life.  It's too bad that the happy feelings wern't felt by all the family.  I did enjoy this poem!

Good for your aunt, Larry....

I'm sure glad that no one tried to dissuade me from marrying David....
I sure wouldn't have listened.
But I'm lucky....everyone in my family loves him.
I wish your aunt lots of luck on her new marriage.  Old loves are often the best kind.

Love is love ... I don't care how old the ribbon is that you wrap it in.  The final images though ... ???????  Oh well, I guess we all will get there eventually anyway.  Very cool write and the rhythm was dead on.

Isn't love great? Your phantom friend from the north is sitting here (visualize camel hair bikini) under the Rockies, wishing your dear aunt all the best. Way to go, Auntie! Keep those fires burning! Kacy
