Heroes, Every One

So many miles from home they lie,
Beneath a blue, but foreign sky.
The ones who came to fight a war
In lands they'd never seen before.
Each one of those who stayed behind,
Rests lovingly on someone's mind
And each one left a family,
That takes pride in their bravery.

They've earned our gratitude and praise.
We will remember all our days,
The dreams that died, before begun.
The father, husband, brother, son.
The mother, sister, daughter, wife.
Both men and women lost their life.
They answered to the bugle call
And faced the battle, standing tall!
We were not there to see them fall,
But we salute them, one and all!

This is very special to me. I have walked on many a foreign land. I am glad to know that it wasn't in vain. Thank you for remembering those who didn't make it home.
