Rescue Me

I am the screaming pin drop inside the heart of that proverbial Snow White
sleeping in wait 'neath glass dreams and moon beams
choking on the apple core of failed expectations,
poisioned by the fantasy that my white knight exists.

I am restless, exhausted by the search,
I am my own worst enemy -
for, I believe.

Pathetic
how in between the redundant serenade
and pity for the wounded minstrel,
I trust in what he decrees me to be,
and, I conform, become the cliche of the masses,
thinking that I can turn a pauper into a prince.

Here I am, in strut of pose, an imposter,
insecure, though masked in allure;
I'll wear the gown, the lips, the heels,
it's almost midnight, claim me now before I turn into a pumpkin.

I've sold my own spirit
and broken my own promises,
I'll settle for less and entertain in jest,
so cut me out with all the paper dolls,
paint my chest with silicone,
tape me up and dye me blonde.

But, what's forever for?
if it dries up faster than a kiss
when marriage and divorce
is 50/50 success?
Someone should tell Mother Goose
this fairytale is a mess.

Rescue me,
force the happy ending,
dissipate the tears and tell me the lies,
I am your willing maiden, I'll change for you.

Save me, love me, fill the need,
ride me off into the sunset,
I'll make a deal not to feel.
I'll be your martyr and moan your praise,
I'll even lick your burns
and let the salt drip my eyes
until I finally see.

All I ask is that you rescue me
from me.

"here I am, in strut of pose, an imposter"

I love that line. It sings with originality!!

Haven't seen you do that in a while. I'm getting mad at myself because I realize I've grown to like it.

Wowzers Melybee, there is a huge difference between being lonely and being alone, and this poem sure shows the difference!  I bet so many could indentify with this, and thank goodness I am only alone.

Nothing means more to me than faith,
family and my friends.

Melissa, girl you have such a head like me. Why is it like this,I would love to find the answer.
Fairy tales can come true..isn't that in one of the disney songs.
Liars..all.
But you sure write of it profoundly.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Melissa, this reminded me so much of Pink's "Don't Let Me Get Me", sweet friend, I understand how you feel and I too hope you find all your heart desires soon for you are so deserving of it. Stay true to yourself and your dreams, sweet friend, they will come true soon, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
