the Age of Youth

Across the boulevards, screams are heard
No-one panics - no authority intervenes
for these are shrills of a pinnacled joy
of morning adults masquerading as infancy
two, three-feet ducklings within wingshot
under a mother’s nurturing umbrella.

Fountains of youth rain on toe-heads
as they squeal in delight
Concrete ponds welcome these walking fish
where water fails to rust an unbridled enthusiasm
and the air is punctured every few seconds by
Mommy! Watch this!

I stand amidst their mirth
unseen and invisible in their discovery of exuberance
so intent are they on their moment
so loud and sharp their piccolo laughs are
then,
the silence roars!
voices quiet in rapt attention
waiting for a lifeguard to say:
Break’s over!
and the Age of Youth is to begin again. . .

Jeff darling boy I really love this poem it is UTTERLY utterly fabulous. Yes I know I always say that but then you always write to utter perfection. I wouldn’t have to say it was absolutely perfect if you didn’t always write so well would I? No exactly

The children exuberance and the happy shrieks of delight are painted perfectly divinely my dear friend your skill with a pen is unmatched darling boy, this is utterly utterly perfect and I love it love it love it.

Excellent writing and perfect presentation

Love and warm stuff
As always
Mushy

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the eathquake wind and fire
Oh

Gentle Spirit

absolutely WONDERFUL write Jeff, it captures the moment so very well.  *s*

Enjoy life, this is NOT a dress rehearsal.

It not only captured the moment, but brings back other remembered squeals of delight...

Ah Jeff...as with Karilea, this did indeed bring back many memories of summer fun with the children...
I especially liked and smiled at the thought of 'piccolo laughs'...how charming is this??!!
Wonderful write of a carefree, childhood summer day.

Jeff

You caught the magic...wouldn't surprise me if you became one of the gleeful...not at all.  Thanks for the cool summer feeling and the joy.
