I adore the heft of it
held within my hands
I feel the weight
of thought and pain
intensity
of clacking keys
intimate
in privacy
as I read
inhaling exhalations
of a brilliant mind
in bleed.

Acid tongue
and words that slice
in mockery
of self-loathing--
punctuation's parse
exacting tone
in bemused distance
noting
the absurdity of life.

I feel her--
she is part of me--
I follow pages
breathlessly
(exultant me)
I watch a champion
boxing brains
dancing effortlessly
transfixed
by the very grace
as she wrote
the knock-out punch.

I yearn to sit
and bend elbow
with noble Knights,
Algonquin...
reflections cast
as mirror ball--
in awe of words
just cast aside--
mere scraps to them
from chargers
of the day's repast.

Mrs. Parker did not die.
(her gift a stance of unforgive)
Her words still ring
a truth of time--
Dorothy?
might as well live.

Written with gratitude for Janet Marie---thank you m'twin for the wonderful birthday gift! (yayayayay...got it today!) And to clue anyone else in? The book is entitled "Not Much Fun--The Lost Poems of Dorothy Parker." (And a quick anecodote regarding the title too.."not much fun" was Dorothy Parker's answer to a bartender who simply asked, "What are you having?") Sounds like someone we know, yes? grinning madly...THANK YOU JANET!!! hugging it to my heart...

ah...my sisters! howdy...popping in to give the proper credit regarding the last sentence, which alludes to THIS poem by Dorothy Parker:

"Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live."
                        -Dorothy Parker

(I do hope this quote is not a problem--full credit given here...but if it's still a no-no...say so and I will edit!

Thanks to two of my sisters in soul!

Ah Duncan took my favorite part, and yes boy do you both have similar styles, and humor that is for sure.  I can't wait to see what she inspires in you Serenity.  That was friggin awesome writing.

Nothing means more to me than faith,
family and my friends.
