Here, fat pigeons collect their allowance.
While Venice hangs on the brink of madness,
And a tear is enough to tip the balance
And erase its grayness off the azure atlas.

Here, the skies are starless and crestfallen,
The night is sulking in her mourning dress.
The silver moon continues glowing, calling
The sleeping tides to wake up and caress.

Here, Muses tear the fabrics Fates have spun.
And Melpomene leads lovers to the edge.
Her tranquil song, her tragic song plays on…
Her monologue appears to flood the stage.

Here, winged lions gaze out of the clouds,
Their golden bodes -- frozen in the air,
And blending with the silent flowing crowds,
The angels dance across San Marco square…
