Once a-bed, there does seldom come sleep.
Lie awake, hear their murmuring still.
Dreams forsaken, as answer their call,
though rings silent, it's none the less shrill.

When they summon from ashes, a spark
to ignite dormant flame from the coals,
no use fighting the voices you hear,
for they speak from the well of the soul.

They are driven as fire 'fore the wind,
those who harken to voices as these.
From the darkness of deepest despair,
to describe what it is that they see.

As the words flow from fathomless depths,
all are cleansed, over time, that they heal.
That is when one might glimpse through the haze,
some small hint of the muses, revealed.

They encompass the full human range
of emotions acquired from our birth.
though such notions occur as a dream,
in the end, may be proven their worth.

Where has raged an inferno, within,
muses call forth a different refrain.
Words which fall o'er Elysian fields,
freeing one from the need to explain.

Not all voices are those of our muse,
nor convey things as well as we'd choose.

This one flows so well, and says so much. It's a wonderful poem.

Nan,
Thank you for your kind comments. This is my third (and last, for a while) poem in this format. Without the help I recieved from the workshop, it wouldn't have been written. My thanks again go to Balladeer ( who wouldn't let me get away with a darn thing )and of course "Teach" ( who wouldn't either !). For that, they both have my eternal gratitude ( translation: just wait 'til next month!)
