Listening to every heart

The Play

a Midwest’s quiet
conservative
town

reaching culturally
outward
with insight, bound

New York lights
on open plains

though subject matter
universal

an Encore, to rehearsal!

one more time

shhhh…..

Nationals are coming….

practice, practice, add more
in less
concise precise
in timed time

refine, define,
combine,
realign,
consign…..hope!

places, places everyone!
know your spot
don’t be undone
don’t forget to break a leg
don’t forget to walk on eggs
don’t forget the rehearsed line

and then do it again
one more time.

~*~

so they did, and did
succeed
take the play and with
godspeed
cursed rehearse
with lusty need
to know they’d done it
so….indeed!

simple lines of clarity
spoken once
in variety
this cursed rehearse of
brevity
stripped away all
naïveté

of the audience…

pain, emotion, lost
devotion, amid commotion
of life

held the struggle against
the waggle of the wiggle
of strife

the learned patient, as
cancer’s host did not brag
nor did she boast
of her poetic knowledge
and its course
that she rode most gallant
astride history’s horse

not till the end, when
the pain had increased
had she lost compunction
nor valued word surcease

she treasured words so!

the audience in combined despair
heard others’ sniffles
combined with theirs
for the actress held their stare
and not because she was
bare of hair

but the pain of loss for
inspired word
left her grasp, all poets
heard

cancer’s pain had gained,
when, in a moment’s clarity,
she once again spoke Donne
and his words became
charity

“Death be not proud...”

and she spoke the lines
before the gasp
death entwined…
but did not last…

in staged light, she became her
soul,
all else had never met the goal
she walked out in naked
brilliantine

and the crowd roared
at death’s lost scene

(big hugggsssssss) I may be wrong, but this felt to me like a double-meaning poem, the drama itself but then a deep sadness of loss, almost like a melodrama of human emotions! (sigh) This is deeply heartfelt, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
