Grief’s Tribute to Passion’s Poets
By Larry Chadwick

A tribute is in order to my poet friends,
For more than flowers were given to me.
So many of you responded with kind words,
And I finally learned the meaning of empathy.

I feel so inadequate, not to mention extremely late,
To find a meaningful way to express what I can’t repay.
But I have truly been taught that words can be enough,
And when you don’t know how to express it, just say it anyway.

I felt like Humpty Dumpty for I had a terrible fall,
Broken in so many pieces I feared I could not mend.
Sticks and stones might break some bones,
But words can put you together again.

I’ve learned that while friendships emotionally set you free,
I had absolutely no understanding of how dependent I might become.
Death has taught me about the fragility of life,
But you have taught me where strength comes from.

I have all of your emails and all of your poems and responses too,
They’re in plastic sleeves and binders stacked by my bed.
I read and printed them at my desk, and organized them one by one,
And now I read them and they give me courage over dread.

Proof that those who claim they have no idea what to say,
Have made a lasting impact in my now flawed life.
Every word was mortar for piecing together my broken heart,
Every word adding strength to overcome strife.

In my sorrow I’m uncertain I responded to each and everyone,
Forgive me if I haven’t already made it very clear,
That without the poets of this wonderful website,
My life would have so much less for which to cheer.

But I have multiplied your sharing through its ink,
And my friends that take the time to read what  you have done,
Are moved, as I will always be for the rest of my life,
To know poetry is the glue that keeps my heart with Ginger as one.

June 24, 2002

I haven’t found the time to name you all, but I love each of you.

Show you care to those you love...today.

Someone said 'A friend is a gift you give yourself.'  Wish I knew who.  Anyway, PiP exemplifies that truth and you are one of the finest examples.

Larry darling boy this is seriously excellent writing, the flow of this is perfect, as always you delight when you write, and today you excel.

Friendship is an amazing and wonderful commodity, the more you give the more you are given, your heart has always been willing to give friendships warmth and it has been returned to you, and will continue to flow back to you always. YOU are a wonderful soul, you contribute so much to this big community of ours and I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you for your friendship it is always a special gift.

I still stand amazed at the strength of character you have shown through some of life's worse moments, and then, you turned around and hugged us all...I can see why Ginger loved her father so very much...

Larry,

There are many who would have withdrawn into
sorrow and never have felt the healing and
seen the words of love.  Your courage through
this time of your life has allowed you to
do so, and by so doing, allowed you to feel
the compassion of others as well as your own
self.  And to begin your own healing as well.

I admire your strength...

Hello Larry

Your words moved me to tears.  I cannot begin to imagine how you deal with such a loss but how wonderful that so many people, most of whom you have not even met, wrote their feelings and words of comfort in order to support you.  I for one am so pleased that you found some solace in our humble words.  You have supported me since my humble beginnings and I felt such a strong desire to try and comfort you with my words, as did so many others.  It is such a wonderful warm family here and there is no other site to compare.  Take care my friend and thank you for your inspiration and friendship.

Love Sue
