The Night Owl’s Lament

I wish
I was an early riser,
Lying in wait
For the incoming late,
Ready to load them up
With my expectations
And demands;
Ready to remake their day
To fit my needs.

Instead…
I’m the hapless night owl
Getting pounced on
Before I’m even awake;
Attacked,
Before my mind has cleared;
Still wondering if I’m alive,
Long before I’ve completed
My daily evolution
into a thinking, functioning being.

Sometimes…
I even stay up all night
Just to get the jump
On everyone else.
I marvel at the morning
And wish
That I watched the sun rise
Every day.

In my unusual state
Of heightened alertness,
I lie in wait
For those insufferable
‘Up at five,
Ready at eight’ types
And load them up
With my brilliant plans
For their day,
Their purpose,
Their reason for being,
Their right to life.

Trouble is…
I run out of gas
On the follow up.

So who is ‘on’
24 – 7?

Am I the only one
Who needs sleep?

Since this offensive
Didn’t work for me,
The best defense that I’ve found
For failure to rise early:

I simply wake up surly.

You have a great wit!  And I relate very much, why my phone's usually unplugged until I choose to wake up.

A pious lot those "up at fivers",
Their behind could use my encisers.
But if I get up way too early,
I'm with you for being surly.
And as for staying up so very late,
I have the place to myself, it's great!

If this is a campaign...where do I contribute? fun write dear girl.

I'm one of the lucky ones...
I know how this sounds from the Voice
herself...
and I'm so glad she put it here...
because she is the Owl
and I am the Early Riser...
and we still get along just fine!

{I simply ignore the surly...}

Haha I am an owl,too. I wake up as crabby as possible, cause it is never TIME.
Love this, nice work.

BRAVO!!! Oh Louise, I understand how you feel, sweet friend, I am a night owl sometimes every now and then and it is typical for so many but there is nothing very wrong with that! (sigh) This is thoughtful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Louise, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Very cute ending, Bridget....
I don't do mornings either....unless forced to.
Yesterday, I had to be at the hospital for my biopsy at 6:15 AM...
That was horrible!.....but the results were great

Thanks to all of you for reading and commenting.  I had fun writing this one and enjoyed your responses.

Sunshine--Don't forget to wake me at noon.  I don't want to miss anything important. (smile)
