Having come back from Addition-Elle with three items of clothing, and having entered my room (where the door is missing its knob, and I have a red-plaid Chanel scarf stuffed through the hole), stepping over a red-plaid skirt with safety pins covering it and sitting down in a seat with a grey pin-stripe business jacket slung over the back (with an Alchemy Gothic t-shirt in a pile at my feet), I've decided I need to figure out what the hell is wrong with me. Or my closet. Or me!

Standing in front of the antique mirror,
practicing singing
with a Robert Smith expression,
I can't help but smile
at the blue leopard-print shirt
that hangs off all the right curves
and hangs over all the ones I don't want.

The floor, the closet,
the open shelves,
are all a mass of clothes.
It must be a teen thing, huh?
Except that,
by law,
I'm adult.

Nothing quite matches,
though some of it tries.
and it all does its best
to express what's inside
of this too-short
too-feisty
grrl in the mirror.

Not a little girl playing dress-up;
that's just what I used to think.
Opening a closet
to reveal nothing but black
and black and black and black
and black and black and black
and black and black
and s'more black.
There had been its time and place,
of course,
as everything has
its time and place.

My mother always said
that black was a phase.
With that, she implied
I would grow to be normal.
And it's not as though black
has been phased out yet.
Things are just expanding.
Perhaps far too quickly.

You see, my closet
is a very confused little thing.
Velvet-touch cloak
and metallic red "wings".
Band shirts and silk
and argyle and plaid
with the occasional leopard-print
shirt or leash.
Things that are way too long,
things that are way too torn,
things that no one else
would be seen in
in public.

Now my mother accuses me
of being a romantic,
what with my interest
in flowing, frilly sleeves.

This was the woman who accompanied me
on the wild romp
that ended with a stretchy blue leopard shirt,
a very classy black skirt
with asymetrical hem,
and a silky cotton shirt
with all the right clings.

I wrinkle my nose at myself in the mirror,
not exactly sure what I am today.
It seems that my closet
isn't the only one that's confused,
but a little confusion
won't hurt anyone.

I just hafta say one thing: The "wings" are floor-length sleeves. *melt* *drool* Black with metallic-red threads woven in in this awesome rose-bud design. Looks positively evil (so says my mother, who was the one who made them nonetheless). I love things that drag on the floor.

Feel my angsty reachiness!

Is she cute or what? And you HAVE to see her in a velvet cape. Holy class! (even when I trip over it every few feet like the squirrelclutz ah am)

These smiling eyes are just a mirror for the sun.

I remember someone like this from my youth..a long time ago..hmmmm, but it was petticoats in big circles all over the floor...drying after being dipped in gelatin..yup, that was me!  I enjoyed this look into your closet.

BRAVO!!! Oh Avrill, this is soooooo powerfully expressed, sweet friend, I admit I am not big o the color black and I am big especially on rainbow and tie-dye colors, but I believe may things can correspond with each other and it just depends on our own tastes! (big hugggsssssss) This is excellent, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Anvrill, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I'm coming to cure all your problems.  I'm coming over to take the "wings" and skirts off your hands.  Then you or your closet won't be confused anymore..
