Wicked flames whip tornado fashion
brilliant colors finger the skies
gulping breath from white-hot smoke
rebellion rages before disbelieving eyes

What frenzy stirs her holocaust
life sustaining fire out of control
devouring forests like tinder bonbons
brave men struggle on fire patrol

What peril lay in forest deep
small towns eaten in dark of night
plumes of danger seep westerly
we watch in horror, pray in fright

What Mother in her nature’s wrath
consigns madness to cleanse our sin?
rain forsaken we fight alone
a war we fear we cannot win

No rain to stop cataclysm
we whisper prayers of desperation
vigilant quest for the cessation
of summer hell’s conflagration

Fire rages throughout the western states. Today some of Arizona's small eastern towns are burning. Show Low, named for a card hand, is in danger and is on evacuation alert.

The town got it's unusual name in 1870, when two men decided to divide up the land that they had taken as their homestead. They determined that the winner of a game called "Seven Up" could buy the land from the other man. Towards the end of the game, one man needed only one point to win. The other man told him "all you need is to show low and you win". The man came up with the duece of clubs and thus, the name of this town was born.

Thank you all for you kind words. Today we are expecting hot temps and wind gusts up to 45 mile per hour. Things settled down last night and the damage was assessed - and it's not as bad as they feared.

I feel so bad for the firefighters here in the West....it seems they are stretched to their limit.

If any knows any rain dances, please do them now - we sure could use some. Since January, we have only had .19 inches of measurable rain here in Phoenix.

I was thinking of you as I watched the news last night... and wondering about the name of the town. *S*

This is a wonderful poem, PDV... and echoes the words I heard from one tired firefighter... "All we can do is not enough... we need rain."

It's raining in California today...perhaps it will move your way.  I hope so!

"If you pray, please pray for rain" deserves to be a poem in its own right. Perhaps a phrase for tonight?

She said burn ... together.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sharon, I know just how you feel, this is depressing to me, for in Colorado we have problems of our own too, the Hayman fire is still happening and is near Sedalia now and the fire is only 25 miles from me and has burned about 300,000 acres! (sad sigh) Find my poem "One Last Sigh", it's somewhere in Open #21 and is how I feel and envision the fire in Colorado, this is very powerfully saddening, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
