Slaying the Lion

deny or shun
there is no avoidance of a mission of purpose
for it wavers not in intrepid valor
come tomorrow, the dawn is split
one side is the righteous who embraces it
the other lies the coward who leans to night
impervious to slings or arrows
he falls at the throw of a pebble
the bravest warrior lives a life of brevity
victory is fleeting vapor, intangible
for even Androcles did not have to slay the lion
in order to gain its friendship
hatred is like that
a thorn in foot, for which every step is painful
and best removed with care
and a surgery of love

Jeff its Mushy’s youngest and prettiest daughter here, this is excellent writing, the image perfectly matching the words, which are excellent. YOU are a very very good writer and this is an amazing poem. Well done, I can see clearly why both mum and Krissy seek out your writing. More please

lots of love

Love is the sure way to soothe a savage beast, and in the process, remove the thorn. I love this one Baby!

Very well thought out and done...this is the first I've read of your work and I'm impressed....Ying and Yang can make a peaceful gray when thought is used to appease rather than to conquer....

I really enjoyed this one, Jeff...read it over and over...
I love the thorn in the foot best being cured with the surgery of love...

Victory is a very ill defined word, anyone can have a victory...but at what price?
