I took a thin white-graveled path behind
our cabin in the woods. The cool dark hush
soon opened out into a country lane.
The day grew warm, the sun grew hot, the track
came to an end; I faced an asphalt road.
Far to the left it seemed to smooth, almost
like glass. Far to the right it seemed as though
the road just disappeared. I stood perplexed.
Which way should such a simple traveler
as I essay? Faced with such choices I
sat down and thought to pray. But I was tired,
the sun was hot, my shoes burned on my feet.
I took them off and soon my toes began
to feel so light, I stood to dance upon
the verge—and asked myself, why should I go
down any road? And so, ran home again.

Good Decision!  This is cute...the pondering...then the choice to stay in the known.  Love it!

Nan hi there, this is excellent writing, I really do think you are one of the most amazing writers, your imagery is utterly excellent. You can tell I’ve seen too many of mum’s replies can’t you? You really are an outstanding writer and I love this one

lots of love

Hi guys! Thanks Loner, SM, Magnus, ethome, Emma, and Nan for reading and replying. I have to post one now and then, or all I'm doing is telling people how much I like their poems, and they begin to wonder who the phantom poster is.

This was beautifully descriptive, Nan...
Its so liberating to take your shoes off outside in the woods...
but don't step on any stones...

As anyone can tell you ... I love imagery filled words and you painted quite a vivid scene for us with this one.  The read was not only a delight but also the composition was a treat just in the flow and smoothness throughout the piece.  Well done.

Lyra,
When I was a kid I loved barefootin' -then I grew up and got tenderfooted.

Mark,
Thanks-I tried to do iambic pentameter throughout the poem. It's such a smooth meter it helps anything I do.

Walt,
Thanks!

EagleScorpion- I didn't think he'd mind. Do you think he's really upset? Should I watch out for lightning bolts?

Kethry-Sort of an off-dirty-white color, actually. And they didn't click so much as thump together!

Dark-sounds like a happy restful time.
