Bizarre Bazaar
By: Noah Eaton
6/11/02

Strolling down Old Town Avenue on a hot Monday afternoon
Shielded by the palms, decorating the Mexican palisades down to the lagoon
Sipping down on strawberry-banana margaritas, listening to Latin pop playing on the streets
It's all between the sun and me...

Walked into Miranda's Courtyard at 2 P.M before savoring Puerto Nuevo lobster in a Baja grill
Sauntering San Diego Avenue with a sarape around my shoulders and ivory lungs filled
Among shaddock-lined sidewalks I find myself soaking up the sun
Mango tango two-step under the sun...

I entered the Bazaar del Mundo, where it's always a fiesta
Danced in the courtyard with sandels on as the mariachi band played some samba
Saw angels on the veranda
Swaying in tantra-sutra
In the midst of impressional malaria
Gypsies hiding ebony crowns under their sombreros
Gentleman instructing dance partners like horses and vaqueros
I stepped onto the patio of the Casa de Pico
Where all you've got is put on the show

We spotted chulacanas at discount stores, Huichol Indian art on the walls
Paper art and Kachina dolls along the market halls
And the Catholic Church on the corner painted like some midsummer nights dream
Children on the streets say "Take off your shoes and wash your feet,
Like the Good Mary Magdalene speaks!"
So I'm out here in the Baja heat
Topping off a fine day with a scoop of Dulce de Leche ice cream...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Shakira

Noah,
loved the line that said "it's all between the sun and me" Waht a picture you paint. No "wish you were here" postcards for you, just send them this poem

Noah, you have nailed Old Town. I remember Casa de Pico, I used to get guacamole enchiladas and Strawbery Margaritas.
Sigh.
Beautiful poem, too.
