t-shirt torn
hair unshorn
faded blue jeans
stained with memories of
a hundred unwashed days
never to worn
again
last name unknown
in an unmarked grave
no preacher prays
when the County pays
pine coffin
filled with
memories of
a hundred unwashed days,
never to be seen
or heard from
again.

(*LNU is what the police use for the unknown name of an individual in a report.)

Hmm..I don't really see the humor in this poem (theres a good chance I'm just missing it though..I've been in a somewhat depressed mood all day today)...it seems dark, but I like it-it makes you think a lot.  I like the way you wrote it.

I know of many parents who wonder if their child, a son or daughter, could possibly be an LNU...so many shall never know...and they wait, and wait...hoping for the phone to ring one day...

a stark write, Tim...reality is hard, but now and then we have to lift our heads from the dreams, and face it straight on...thank you...

guess I missed the humor too - more of an confessional ode to LNUs - Paul

Tim, this is tragic. Well written and heart-wrenching.

This is interesting and an education.  Can I use LNU in scrabble?     Keep writing & posting!
