Thank You Daddy

My Daddy and me, when I was a bit over a year old
Thank you Daddy for being there
thank you for calming my childhood fears
for all of the bedtime stories you read
and for chasing the monsters from under my bed

thanks for all of the deep talks we shared
and always showing how much you cared
for guiding me through my childish ordeals
with compassion and love, you taught me to feel

a shining example of how to live
how to laugh
how to cry
how to love
how to give

for bearing with me through teenage years
and your shoulder, on which I shed some tears
though you've been gone for so many years
your presence remains, beside me...near

through life's tribulations and angished trials
I remember your hug and the warmth of your smile
with vivid recall, your voice...your face
a life well lived, a model of grace

and one more thing, Daddy...
its because of you
that I love poetry, as I do
thanks again Daddy...I'll forever love you

I think our best poetry is written right from the heart....just writing down our feelings.
I notice that sometimes I just write and think I have written gibberish and then the next day, I take a look at it...and with a couple of minor modifications...it becomes a poem.
Such was the case with this one...
