Memories

my late son is on the left and my late husband is on the right with Dasha in his lap

She remembers them well
she always will

comforting pieces of her little girlhood
carried with her, forever
sewn deeply into the hidden seams of her soul

her two favorite men
so similar
in look...in voice...in manner
both loved her with tenderness, unreserved

she was their little princess

those were the innocent times
her family was whole
intact

love flowed in endless streams of laughter
and smiles beamed hopes, everlasting

Daddy pranked her silly with giggles
and Pa-Pa relished her plastic cuisine

her two favorite men...
both swept into the ethers of eternity
within little more than a years time

the two who loved her
more than they loved their own souls

two lives stolen away
much too soon
their places filled now
with only the blackness of empty

my eyes fill with tears
as I write these lines, unrhymed...unversed

she is my grandaughter
and they are our memories

please forgive me for venting tonight.
This poem is dedicated to the memories of my late first husband and my late son.I will give it to my grandaughter when she is older. The photo was taken in November of 95 when Dasha was 3 yrs old.

Lyra
It's very sad when the ravages of death come too early. These things are not just and even harder to explain......... However, our memories are so precious and heartwarming. This will be a nice gift for your granddaughter and the stories you tell her will make her life complete!
You can vent all you want at this place....it holds up well to that type of thing.
Nice to read your words from the heart!

Your loss was great and will continue to be. I can't imagine how hard it would be to bear these losses so close to one another.

Never apologize for mourning, it is the only way one heals the wound that loss has made.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

You have no idea how this touched me.  I hope
she can always remember the wonderful side of
them and not feel so deeply the loss...

I can only imagine how this has felt to you.
I have endured my own losses over the years
and the emptiness is never taken away...

HUGS...BIG BIG HUGS!!

Oh Lyra, how sweet and sad. They look so much alike, don't they? I don't know how you could have handled so much tragedy, you are so brave.

Thanks so much, VAS...
After my first husband died, I think that it was only my writing  which kept me sane.
That and the memories

Thanks so much, Maureen, I had actually debated with myself about whether to write an explanation of who was whom, but decided not to.  I have since added it beneath the picture.
I guess that in that picture is is pretty hard to tell, but I knew them in person...of course, and Eric didn't have any wrinkles or grey hair...and of course those don't show up in photos unless they are very close up.

Thanks so much, Martie...
I will probably give it to her when she is in college.  I don't think she will appreciate it before then, and she will probably lose it anyway...
Of course I could always make her another copy, and when she has a computer she'll have a place to store some of my poems...
but I will definitely give it to her and I am sure that she will treasure it.

~ big hugs

Yes, I have had my share, and probably some more added to it also.
I just wish that God didn't think I was so strong....because I'm really not.

Thanks so much, Barry...
the emptiness never does seem to go away, does it.  I don't know how my family would have survived Eric's death without David being with us......and I had just met him a few weeks earlier...
I think God watches out for us always.

Thanks so much, Sandra...
They also had the same exact voice...If I was in a room with both of them, and I closed my eyes...I couldn't tell who was talking....of how I miss the sound of their voice.
Its been hard, and I think that my "bravery" is really a zest for life that I have because of David and the rest of my loving family.
