There's always an eagle,
there's always a god
so men can march legal
and armed in death squads.

There's always an eagle,
there's always a god
while few remain regal
and rule us with fraud.

Caeser as Jupiter
whose proud standard bearers
died feeling stupider
for wasting their prayers.

Bonaparte Emperor
the masses did spell,
his godlike attempts were
just raisings of hell.

Assyrian's sun god,
Greek's bird of Zeus
had common men awed,
how absurd and obtuse.

The nazi's was iron,
Iraq's coat of arms,
as we do their squirin'
their glory, our harm.

With fear they control us,
the omnipotent
with terror extol us
from guys in a tent.

They'll free us from freedom,
a huddling mass,
the trick is to treat 'em
(till Enron is passed)

With a slip of the tongue
the crusades are evoked,
while god's anthem is sung
wear mute patriot's yoke.

Faith in the acronyms
who peep while we sleep,
focus on battle hymns
as phones, 'puters go beep.

Put trust in the system
and it's trillions defense,
at least Judas kissed 'Em
fore the busting commenced.

Scapegoats of eagle
drowned in drummings of god,
we await Steven Segal
and our hero Jean Claude.

We work and we toil
paying house notes and rent,
take the cross dresser's oil
for the top 5 percent.

And our need to believe
that ol' "Don't tread on me"
lost the lesson of Eve
and the meaning of free.

Soaring symbolic raptor
near extinct by our Love
till the nuclear rapture
sent from gods not above.

Interesting...we are probably closer to nuclear rapture then we have ever been before...those that desire nuclear capability know they will never win a conventional war...so they will fight with terrorism or nuclear methods...James

I'm just wondering why your powerful poetry is on the bottom of this page.

GOOD POETRY OVER HERE, PEOPLE!

I will not bend to the cowardice of a silent judgement.

Mr. Wells, once again, you evoke
knowledge of ages to tell us that history
is but repeating its own mistakes...

and you do it so very, very well...

Thank you. It's unfashionable to do anything that might be considered unpatriotic right now. But I've not blind faith nor the fear of standing in a different light than the majority and my credentials as a citizen are solid.

Not looking forward to the last one, but at least it will be quick. The message is loud and clear. Good write.
