As It Should Be

The sun breaks through the misty morning
as the birds rise to greet each other in song.
In the distance a wood pecker carves the name
of his true love into the pines that loom overhead.

It is for all to see throughout the annals of time.

Clouds drift by giving the sun a chance to play
hide and seek like a little child again.
It feels weary today, for it has seen the passing
of many silver moons.

Like all things it needs the brief periods of rest.

Smoke rises from the ash as it drifts on high
to remind the spirits that have walked here before
that they are still remembered.

As long as the fires of life burn they will not be forgotten.

The sleeping Mother Earth awakens with sleepy yawn
that blows gentle breeze across the dew kissed forest,
giving it the wake up call of a new day.
The earth mother opens her eyes to the sun
that filters through to kiss her good morning.

It warms the ancient bones that have aged with grace.

Wiping the sleep from her eyes she thanks
the creator for giving her yet one more day
in the pages of life.
She smiles with the secret shared by herself
and the earth elements.

~Once again,
all is as
it should be~

Thanks Dear Marge for your help. Hugs.

Donna this is so lovely...your imagery and theme create a wonderful ethereal sense of inner peace and awareness of things that once were...and what will be again...
also the essence of being in tune with nature
very cool write of the ancients and the lessons they leave behind.
Well done poetess GS!!
Good to find your name here tonite.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for such gracious replies. It means much to me, and helps me to know that I am still growing.....I am learning.....

I wrote this when I went on vacation the other weekend as I was having my morning coffee under the freshly damp with dew morning trees.  It was a beautiful morning.

Marge, thank you sweetie for the help!

Hugs to poetry land and the poetry family.
