Unexpected Journey

One day I walked along the dock
Admiring the world at play,
When out of nowhere came a dark ship
And pirated me away.

On this ship there was no peace,
No laughter, joy, or light.
So I sat down in despair
To contemplate my plight.

I could not eat, I could not sleep,
My life was filled with tears.
I felt myself fading away,
The days, they seemed like years.

I realized this journey
Was not one I’d planned to take,
Whoever booked me on this cruise
Had made a terrible mistake.

I struggled so just to survive,
It all seemed so glum,
Then I knew just what I’d do,
I’d go back the way I’d come.

I set my sail to take me home,
And hurried toward the shore.
If I could just set foot on land,
I’d sail away no more.

Then one morning I looked out
To a wondrous sight.
The sun was pushing through the clouds
Sending me new light.

Now I had a feeling
I’d not known since I’d begun.
For with that ray of sunshine,
I knew the battle I had won.

Pam!
All the responses here are from friends of mine. And cpalmer and I attend the same church. This is an excellent poem. Please write and post some more. You got great responses here.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
