Concrete Steps

I searched
through
a hundred crowds
to find one
familiar face
the reflection
of my soul
that realities
fingers could
trace
and in the
smiles of many
it just was
not found
so I sat
upon concrete steps
going neither
up nor down
for I have
walked flat footed
on asphalt hot
until I settled
down to
one cool
concrete spot
and here is
where I shall
firmly sit
as parade
passes by
for in the
faint moonlight
I have heard
an echo
of my heart
in reply

"The heart is the toughest part of the body, tenderness is in the hands." Carolyn Forche'

I think I have sat there before...going not up or down, am I now? Am I resting in the cool spot, or am I stuck, becoming as stone itself? Oh, I hope not.

Quite a poem. It sets one to many ponderings.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
