To Tell Michelle

Michelle, I had to tell you,

I felt so full of you tonight,
remembering how you turned your head
and listened with a part of you
tuned in to some place else.

You made such loud conversation,
thinking that because your hearing was impaired,
others must be, also.

Now, a child born deaf, can hear!  I heard it on the nightly news.

Perhaps one day soon there will be a cure,
or at least a way to stop
a child from dying the way you did,  too.
{So lost and gone before you knew you were like
the beauty of the mist in trees,
the song of wood when touched by wind,
the breath of sea and sky’s embrace,
before you knew a lover’s face.)

Well, I just wanted you to know,
sometimes a flash of you appears,
and today I thought about your ears.
Yes,  time has moved a step beyond
a quiet world,  to mother’s song,

and although you probably already know
I just had to tell you

I love you.

When I read these words, my throat tightened...and then I just let the tears roll...

Oh Martie...

I never know what to say.

just a touch of hand, if I could.

Beautiful sentiment. The hearing impaired compensate with a depth in other perceptions, an appreciation for sight and touch. Yet I pray that new technology grants them a chance to experience what we too often take for granted. Enjoyed

Martie,
It is encouraging news indeed. I'm so glad you wrote this. I have deafness in my family. Some day we'll be with our Michelle's. Bless you.

Martie...this really hit me hard

I felt so full of you tonight,

I have actually been thinking about Eric all day today for some reason.  Maybe because in less than a month it will be the anniversary of his death.

Thank you for sharing your beautifully written thoughts with us.

~ loving hugs

loner 23--thanks for the two thumbs up.

Karen--You just said it..and the touch of hand was perfect..thank you for your understanding.

Richard--Michelle wasn't totally deaf..she had so many ear infectons as a baby that her hearing was partially affected.  When I saw on the news about an implant that can help a baby hear..it just thrilled me.  They showed her hearing her mother's voice for the first time.  Made me a little emotional.  Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

Janet Marie--She knows....

Larry--my blessings to you as well.

Lyra--anniversaries are like fill up stations...sad/happy times of memory.  Hugs!

Maree--Hugs back to you for the beautiful and the friendship.

Lauren--Thank you for the peace hugs.

Sy--A loving gentle reply...hugs!

Dave--Thank you for your beauiful sky words.  Hugs!

Martie..
It seems at times when you write 'to' or 'of' Michelle..I simply cannot find the words to convey the emotions that seem to overwhelm me.  So I shall just say this was beautiful, tender, and I am so pleased to know Michelle through her loving mother.

This touched me so deeply, Martie. *S* Like Sunshine, I grabbed the kleenex before even opening the poem... only to let the tears flow freely after all, too captured by your loving words to wipe my face. *S*

Dear Martie, forgive me for responding just now when I'd read this the minute that I saw this posted here. The words caught me unaware and left me unable to express how deeply this tender write had moved me.  If I know nothing else, I do know the loving bond between a mother and child. Thank you for reminding me that some things are trivial compared to the most important things in life.

Thank you so much for sharing,

Tiersdin--It touches me a great deal to know that this brought you such feeling...thank you for taking the time to let me know.  Hugs!
