Unalarmed, eyes betray me,
admit waves, a new day ignites.
Sweet doses of caffiene diuretic
I, mostly liquid, spill to join you
in the river of daily flow,
the fluid of well coursed commerce.

Long lost in the gravitational pull
like sunglasses, unmated socks,
second car keys and a hazed visage
of past Love rent from physical desire,
my mind's a sweaty hand losing not
only Love's face but even my own.

Somewhere between the noosening of
a tie and the placement of the mask
worn when among you tension bellied as
stowaway.

The thread of concern swells
to a bullrope of paranoia
on a ride through unforgiving light.

The artery I drive's amidst
an angioplasty of fallen
old growth trees.

Declaration that not even a sparrow
will hide from the airport's
homeland security, nor a single thrush
prevent immigrant labor from
cementing the future ghost towns
of failed strip centers.

I once knew a mother of four sons.
She lost one to war, one to a boating
accident and one to disease leaving her
a dependant simpleton.
He was the sum of they and in time's
confusion she attributed all their
accomplishments to the idiot.
Strangers thought her mad.

Feeling misplaced, miscast and
inches from lacking a foothold
on the precipice of other's
reality I was given a sign;

A redtailed hawk crossed the
widening road from the dwindling wood.
The weight of a sizable snake
in it's talons drew him low
towards my vehicle whose windy
wake gave lift to a flight into
the loblollies.

I drove towards my daily tasks.

That was a good read. A lot to think about there.

I have really, really missed reaading your work. And now that I am about to go offline for awhile, I am happy to be once again stimulated by the intensity of your thoughts. It's nice to read you again, Richard. I will comment on the actual poem, eventually.

So good to read your work again Richard.
Fantastic picture to accompany a powerful write.
As per usual you leave one much to ponder.
I appreciate a piece which leaves me to think.
Excellent.

Welcome back poet sir ... tis been too long since we've had the pleasure of reading your words, thus reading your mind...
as always, the perspective thru your eyes is one that offers the reader many views.

When man is lead to arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations
When mans concern narrows, poetry reminds him the diversity of existence

Missed you Richard. I found your drive immaculately riddled with thought process that "drives" a normal person..well, ya know that insane word..And yet hanging on the edge of complete rationalism. Please say you're not normal..as your writes are extraordinary to me.

Sincerely,
Reg

I think you are probably as extraordinary as your poems.

Nice to see your work here, Richard... and one that'll make me read it several times to see what more insight I can glean from between your sagacious lines...

I felt like some of that liquid language of yours to fill the air tonight Richard.  It is so very good to see you back posting, and I am ready - got my handy, dandy dictionary out!  This was quite a trip you made!

There is nothing means more to me than
my faith, my family and my friends.
