On A Journey To The Unknown

You sat there on your mighty throne, acting as if you were better than us
All along you were taking beatings, from someone who was so unjust
We wrote to you so many times, never hearing a word from you
Not knowing what we did wrong, we just didn't know what to do

You left him a couple of times, always returning for some more
It broke my heart to see you go, watching you walk out the door
Just like any other battered woman, it was him who you would defend
For whatever reason I do not know, I don’t know why you had to pretend

Your life was not as good as you said, I wonder how many times he hurt you
Anger rises so quick inside of me, each time I think of what he did do
You had no reason to stay with him, if only I had known all he was doing
I would have made it clear to him, I am not anywhere near as forgiving

If I had thought it would have done any good, I would have begged you to stay
My heart was filled with fear, when he took you five hundred miles away

Unfortunately, this is a situation that is all too familiar in the world we live in. You just had the courage to put it down "on paper". Good for you.

Yes friends can be there when someone they know is experiencing this...but they will not come out until they make that decision for themselves...we do not always know all the reasons they stay...the only thing we can do is give them support and opportunities and reasons to move on...James
