I think that what one has on their desk ~ and in their purse! ~ tells a story about the person! I enjoyed the little 'stories' of Yoinn, CC, and Alison!

Hugs all!

I agree with you, Linda.  I usually don't carry a purse - but lately I have been.  It has a cell phone, a small notebook, a few business cards (a photographer, a wooden sign maker and my next hair appointment), dog treats, extra memory for my camera, a camera lens, my wallet, pens (I am addicted to pens and steal them all the ding-danged time), and usually my IPOD.  No makeup or hairbrushes for me.  I am a self-proclaimed slob!

As I look around on my desk I see that I don't have much but what is sitting here makes me happy. my life is simply simple and I love it that way.
I have my lap top
paper and pen I can't go anywehere with out it. even though I can just use my lap top to write.
a pic of family friends and loved ones to keep me close to home.
unsent letters to write to my love from afar
a sketch book with pencils
and my Ipod with music that fills my soul

From right to left...a stack of envelopes and notepads--weighed down by a can of aquanet. There's fingernail polish remover next to that, and hand lotion. Some jovan musk oil, and another notepad, and then there's a piece of a broken bracelet--a butterfly. (I've been meaning to do something with that.)

Did I mention the hair brush? Well there is one. And a brand new pair of earrings (from Claire's! *glee*) um, an ashtray, a very cool mousepad (beloved gift from PdV) and a lighter. OH.

There's a computer screen--right here--tap tap--Now? To the leffffffffffft...I have a lighter, some windex, a copy of the Declaration of Independence and ew...a toothpick. Next to that is a bottle of Arpege..mmmm...and next to that, on top of a stack of CD's is some Oil of Olay Vitalizing Cream. (Not to be confused with RE-vitalizing cream...

A ceramic thingie made by my son, which, for some strange reason, holds only paint brushes but no pens, with a single brass leaf hanging down out of that.

And a bottle of Melatonin.

OH.

And the telephone.

OH. And two speakers...(John Lennon's playing)

and I think that's it!

The Mousepad
My girlfriend's cell phone
My Beatles cap (which I just took off)
Pencil Sharpener
A couple of books I am doing research with for work
Various writing impliments
A file/box system with various things in it
A guitar tuner
My left elbow, as I type this with my right index finger

I have three desks and a sewing table in this room!  This one is my computer desk...

computer paraphernalia:  CPU,keyboard, mouse, two modems, monitor, speakers, broadband modem, a disconnected phone jack

Inside shelf:
CD's, floppy disks, 3 address books, phone book, ink cartridge, a ledger

phone
glass star paperweight from an AVON President's Club luncheon in '89
a note from Farmers Insurance with a prospective customer's phone number
lined note pad
list of skin care regimens
calendar from Australia
high intensity gooseneck lamp

Gifts from family members:
a ceramic figurine of two bluebirds and flowers on a lamp post, (one of the bird's has a broken wing)
a 12" lighthouse candle my daughter gave me for Christmas two years ago
a stuffed monkey hanging on the corner of the top shelf
a whimsical, highly glazed, pink candy dish in the shape of a mushroom house with a yellow butterfly on the lid
a fabric mat woven by one of my daughters when she was in grade school
a tattered "TAZ" mousepad from two of my grandkids
a coffee mug with a message to "Wake UP"--inside are pens, ruler, a nickel, and a grosgrain ribbon

Other than the Avon things and the lamp, nearly everything visible on my desk is a gift, including the computer, which was sent to me from a poet in TN!

My Laptop and its mouse are here
Some audiobooks are sitting near
Ovid and Chaucer for the ear,
A glass of water (never beer)
A pencil too, is this a bore?
The desk's too small for any more!

Like Essorant’s desk, my work desk is too small to hold all that I need for my moonlighting job that gave me a Dell, with internet connection, and an HP all in one fax, copy, scan printer. I’ve added extensions, given it wings, file cabinets and basket lined side tables to hold all the necessary workaday things. The desk is actually a light oak table dragged home out of pity and need from the Goodwill store. A black tag mark down, covered with grim scratches and dings; other shoppers had deemed it unlovable. Not me. As I hand rubbed the wax that smoothed out the surface and gave it a sheen, in the grain I could see faces of newly weds dining by candlelight at their honeymoon table. A layer of sticky at one end, told a story from a time later when candles were extinguished for safety reasons, as the couple made room at their table for a sweet cherub in bib and booster seat.  What’s on my desk? - The glow of past, present and dreams.

Let's see how times havae changed:

My computer (again, obviously)
The set list for a fill in gig I am doing with my former band
Papers for a writing project I am doing
My cell phone
Kid's papers from school that they feel needed to be on my desk for some reason.
Candy left over from that big furry guy.

I think it would be easier to tell you what isn't on my desk... the kitchen sink!

Okay...
Filing trays, overflowing with paperwork
A digital photo frame
A regular photo frame
A telephone
A candle
A watering can (for the orchid that used to be on my desk, but didn't like my office, so has been retired to my fairy-godmother's place for a little TLC)
Some envelopes for posting
A model Subaru WRX
A desk caddy full of pens that don't work
A filing rack overflowing with files
A desk calendar - Gary Larsen style cartoons

A coffee mug
Assorted CDs
A diary
A calculator
A cellphone
A satnav (trying to find where the heck my meeting is this morning!)

A blue goldstone (Bought it at a market for $2. It looks like a little piece of the night sky. I love it)
A little jar with loose change to go in my moneybox at home
A rediculous number of magazines that I really should get around to recycling
A bead necklace I made for my niece
A scale ruler
A report I'm supposed to be collating for submission
A scattering of highlighter pens
Post-it note pads of varying sizes
Light bulbs (don't ask, I don't know either!)
My laptop and mouse
A box of Sippah milk flavouring straws
A box of Nerada Ice peach flavoured tea sachets
A copy of The Princess Bride by S Morgenstern (I didn't realise it was a real book!)
A copy of The further Adventures of a London Call Girl: What Belle Did Next
An address book
Two USB flash drives

And I have to tidy it up today, the cleaners are coming! Argh!!
