Listening to every heart

Patricia emailed me today with this poem and the following:

quote:
I was recently substitute teaching in a sophomore high school English class.  The lesson of day...Poetry, more specifically a "Where I am From" poem composed by George Ella Lyon.  We analyzed the poem and then students were required to compose a poem in this style. What a joy it was to read their work! I decided to make their assignment my own.  After all, it was high time I wrote something again.  So, here is my assignment.  If you feel so inclined I would love to read your "Where I am from" poem.

She wasn't sure how to format this as a challenge, and I said I would help.  Here is her contribution:

Now...

have fun with yours!

This is very interesting dear Karilea and dear Patricia, I will try to come up with something ... when time allows.

Absolutely loved Patricia's poem ~ and it does make for an interesting challenge! Misty Lilac's poem "Where" was a fascinating response to this challenge!

You know me and my curiousity...I think those who walk this road with you will be interested to see how this all transpired.

Wow...

I didn't know I had this in me.

And you make me feel as if there were chapters more
from which to delve, dwell, and reveal!

Thank you!

it's "where I am from" rather than "who I am" right?

where I am from is not a place to go.

Ah, Susan...there had to be some good in your growing up times...you could speak to the culture of the area alone.

I'm just glad you're HERE!

hello, this is mine. It's not quite as conventional as the example poem, but it's somewhat close to the guildlines.
