A few people had shown some interest in my little poetry exercize that I do whereupon I draw my inspiration from the images of the Rider-Waite Tarot Deck. So as promised, I'm choosing cards at random for your poetic consideration.

The card for this week is "Temperance."

I don't have any rules about this'n. You can use any form you like. You don't have to interpret the card's meaning at all. You can use it as the basis for a narrative, if you like. You can post in any forum of your preference, according to whatever rating or guideline your work might belong.

Have fun! I'll be looking forward to the responses--if any.

OH. For those who feel they need a little something extra, here's the Wikipedia explanation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperance_(Tarot_card)

*ahem* I found the "mythopoetic" approach especially interesting, since there are some who have argued that this exercize has little or no poetic value.

Sheesh.

This particular deck is chock full of symbolism, and I espouse the exercize as an interesting approach to the utilization of symbolism and metaphor in my own work.

I'm at least up for exploration.  Don't know if I will post anything or not.  We'll see.  But I will go to those links and study up some as you know I don't know how to read all the symbols yet.  Interesting.  I'll keep you posted, sweets........jojo

This is better looking so it shall be easier to get out of a poem from.

In heaven and hell
When you stretch out lightening
Wet your feather first

Um...TM?

The image isn't showing up. But I have written a few poems about the X.

But by all means, feel free to write whatever--but the challenge remains as stated.

If you have something else you'd like us to try, post it! It's all good.

I thought that they are the same things only in different images. The one I posted looked a bit funny.

By the way, I know nothing about the Tarot cards.

Is there a story about it?

have a good night

do you mean that I make up a story and write a poem? I can try but can be tooo much for me. Sir Balladeer is good at this, I believe.

Susan you say so much with so little--you made the card seem overly complex!

Beautifully done!

Thanks babycakes!

And TM? Don't make it harder than it is--there's no rules. NONE. Just write what you feel, k?

And thanks again Susan--I'm hoping you'll show others that it's not a pop quiz of any sort. It's the same as taking a picture, or a piece of music or a phrase for inspiration.

People just get so weird about Tarot.

sheesh.

Nice distraction from my English paper, K.
Still pondering what it all means.

I wanna thank everybody who has participated so far--and just know I'm prolly reading too fast as it is (Patricia's challenge is great too, so there's a lot of good stuff out there) and nope, I haven't yet posted to my own challenge yet!

But I'll try to get one in before Sunday, since on Sunday, I'm gonna pick another card...

And you guys are doing great--like I said, there's no "right" answer or interpretation, it's just a little "teaser" to play with symbolism and thought.

Love to all!

See ya'll out there--->

and thanks!

Temperance/Wynter's Hold

Restless lies within
sweet dreams bound
by worry rising
when real-speak
needs to bleed its feel
to another

When truth seeks
the held-back
and climbs the wall
to meet time's rejection
knowing that one's indecision
may forever be in Wynter's hold.
