(weeps silently while reading this post)
Alas, tis the poor hoot owl who's been forgotten from these blue pages. Were once a day when her name was well known around these parts; now her name does not even bare mention. Ah, I'll write alone, sweet, poor me

Lonely cry echos
Through the night darkened forest
Gray owl flies alone

If I were but a hankerchief,
...I'd wipe away your tears,
Made of silk and O' so soft,
...I'd melt away your fears,
And say to you your words divine,
...will ever reign supreme,
As I remember rhymes once written,
...they seem but distant dream,
When Mike would pen a simple ode,
...await for Hoot's reply,
If I... your voice would sing in glory,
...as to the skies you'd fly.

Yeppers, someone would be a fool to not want to duet with ya Hoot, I hear tell some guy named Mike really enjoyed the dueling poems you and he wrote some time back.

Someone ought to give themselves a treat and duet with Hoot.

Seems I remember those duets well. Wonder what ever became of Mike?

If I were but a poet
Who bore my soul in rhyme
I'd enter walls of Passion's blue
And lose all sense of time
I'd pen my heart upon a page
The ink'd become my blood
Flowing out in simple verse
No way to dam the flood
I'd touch one life perhaps
Or two within my simple verse
What may to others seem a gift
Would then become my curse
I'd waste the hours of the day
Away within these walls
And one would find me still contained
Long after darkness falls
So with tempered, staggered flights
On these pages I must go
Maintianing life outside these walls
I've other seeds to sow
And though my presence may seem scarce
I'm never far from here
Sneaking in when time allows
A poem or two to share

If I were but a poet,
...and if I had the time,
I would pen an ode to you,
...a wonderous, flowing rhyme.
I'd soar with you to welkin skies,
...in midnight's haunting hour,
We'd sail aboard the Southern Cross,
...as heaven's we would scour,
In search of time's beginning,
...in search of one true love,
As arm in arm we'd search the night,
...to seek love's realm above,
But alas, a mortal be,
...no sand in hour's glass,
No poet with a magic quill,
...he yearns alone, alas.

If Mike were around, I suspect he would write something like that... but he's done gone and slunk away.

If I were but the pen you hold
Between your finger tips
I'd ink the fragile web of words
Afraid to leave your lips
I'd scribble hearts in poetry
I'd draft out love in rhyme
I'd write an epic of lost souls
United throughout time
I'd savor every word and line
The two of us composed
As deep in thought you'd turn to me
Your graceful head reposed
And when the darkness finally fell
When day succumbed to night
You'd turn and softly lay me down
And gently bid me night

Well Tim if you do happen to see Mike around, let him know I miss his inspiration

Mike, O' Mike, where can thee be,
Why is it that thee hide from me?
Could it be thee are afraid,
That I might scale thine escalade,
And breech cold stone of castle's wall,
Exposing thee to Cupid's thrall?
Reveal thyself, mine odist fair,
Thy hiding place, I know not where,
But ever shall I search for thee,
Until thine arms embraceth me.

What's that you say, that I am he,
We're one the same, that I am me?
I am he, and he is me,
I am confused, how can this be?
I fear I'm lost within myself,
Forgotten book on dusty shelf,
I must admit I am not knowing,
If I am coming, or I am going.
Am I here or am I there,
Or even do I really care,
Of only one thing I am sure,
For a recalcitrant muse, Hoot is the cure.

Thanks for this.

If I were but a wisp of wind,
...I'd kiss upon your brow,
To feel the satin of your skin,
...as to you did avow,
A love forever, evermore,
...as whispered O' so soft,
Let me take you in my arms,
...and sail to stars aloft,
Beyond the highest mountain peak,
...beyond our earthen shore,
Unto firmaments on high,
...to the land of evermore.
Beyond Polaris and his minions,
...to where the gods reside,
Listening to muses seven,
...with Orion as our guide.
If I were but a wisp of wind,
...I'd sing an ode to thee,
Of moon and stars and one true love,
...and what you mean to me.

Now Mike might write something like this, but my wife might kick my tail end if I tried something like this so I will respectfully decline.

(Mike's wife said she would kick his tail end too if he wrote something like this so he respectfully declines also)

If I were but the summer's breeze
I'd whisper in your ear
With whispy breath I'd touch your skin
And gently brush your hair
I'd bring with me the subtle smell
Of dew and falling rain
The scent of orchid on the stem
Of wheat and sugar cane
I'd kiss upon your warm, tan cheeks
I'd twirl around your arm
I'd dance through branches on the trees
Wave cornfields on the farm
I'd enter window late at night
To cool you from the heat
And though I'd stroke you tenderly
We'd never really meet
For how can one ever be sure
That something we can't see
Truly exists outside our mind
And so it is with me
A muse, a spirit, or a nymph
Call me what you please
Then think of me some summer night
When you feel the breeze

Tim...seems you're almost as much as an inspiration as my old friend Mike
P.S. My husband agrees with both your and Mike's wife

Whispered breath of muse's song,
Madrigals of passion's long,
Fall on the ear in satin voice,
Terpsichore, in love's rejoice,
Soothing hymns, upon my soul,
Her cooling breeze, mine heart extol,
Forevermore, Fair Muse, I long,
Whispered breath, of muse's song.
Soft caress of longing finger,
Feathered touch of passion's linger.
Drawing nigh, sweet angel's grace,
On weathered skin, doth beauty trace.
With gentle hand, Muse draws me near,
Her healing balm, strokes down my fear,
On Luna's beams, Eros doth bring her,
Soft caress of longing finger.
A muse, a spirit, calling me?
Perhaps a nymph in distant tree?
Nay, she's not, she is the wind,
Gift from the gods, to me they send,
To breathe her songs of love immortal,
To carry me through heaven's portal.

If I ever find that rascal Mike, I am going to tell him he needs to respond to Hoots beautiful offerings, cause if he would, maybe he could get the motivation to kickstart his muse.

With muted words of long ago
Speaks muse to me in loving flow
And brings to life lost inspiration
From depths beyond my own creation
Through cries of feathered flying hawk
Of freedoms quest, I hear him talk
And feel his breath, hot on the breeze
It brings me trembling, to my knees
I answer, lost beyond all doubt
As words on paper tumble out
And clasp my pen of gilded gold
In search of something real to hold
He speaks, I answer, warm reply
Though tear drop trickle from my eye
My wound not cured by stitch nor suave
One always wants what they can't have
And so once more I bid goodnight
To gentle muse and dim the light
Lay down my pen, turn down the sheet
And pray for wind to cool the heat

Tim...I take back my previous remark, you may perhaps be an even better inspiration than Mike (don't tell him I said that though)   I haven't written in months, so thank you for bring my muse along with you. I'm sending much gratitude your way

Do not you see my gentle friend,
What it is that I might send,
It is not of inspiration,
I offer not collaboration,
All I have that I might send,
Is but a whisper on the wind,
Touching not upon your being,
Just a breath, of one man's fleeing,
Searching, seeking in the night,
To bathe in glow of heaven's light,
No more to hear life's sad lament,
But melodies, from muses sent,
A nightingale, to hear her sing,
To calm my soul, her feathered wing,
To lift aloft with lilting call,
To touch me with gods' madrigal.
Clear crystal notes of warbling lute,
Refreshing breeze forth heaven's flute,
Encaptured in night's symphony,
Enraptured in her melody,
As sweet as song of whippoorwhill,
Music from her poet's quill,
Sings of splendor, love's extol,
With beauty of a poet's soul,
So when you feel upon your face,
A whispered breath, reveal your grace,
Allowing but a mortal being,
To end his search, to end his fleeing.

T'will be taking off for a short vacation, I am honored you would again respond to my mere mortal efforts with your heavenly responses Hoot.

Well shoot, Hoot, I was going to ask if you'd like to duet with me, but you and Tim used up all the good words.  So I'll just lodge these lovelies into my library and enjoy it in quiet content.
