Ok folks.  I have a co-worker who adores frogs.  Gimme something good for her, 'kay?

Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn.

Frogs? egads...I once wrote something about loving fried frog legs, but somehow I don't think it appropriate?   I'll let this bounce round my head in there, and see if anything comes out...*chuckle*

I wrote this poem a while ago. It is somewhere in open poetryif you can find it. It is about those frogs who live in the desert in Arazona, that sleep under the ground for as long as 3 years!

Years without rain
Have slowed us down
Until the dust coats our skin
And we just disappear.

For years we lay waiting
Until hope is gone
And we give up

And get ready to stop breathing.
Until it rains again
Never before has mud been so cherished

How unusual.  I just posted a poem about frogs, around the same time another person in Teen posted a poem about frogs... and Vicky's latest villanelle has a frog cameo...

Hmm... frog fever has hit PIP I suppose?

I wrote this from a challenge phrase (frogs in my lap)
On a pickup ride in Arkansas
I sat beside my third cousin Lou
He drove so fast my hat fell off
Boy that old Chevy really flew!

He picked up some stray dog
And tossed him into the back
That darn dog slid from side to side
Till he was caught in Louís gun rack

We stopped at a store to pick up food
That Lou threw on the floor
all this time he said not a word
As I clung terrified to the door

He pulled up to an old gray shanty
And sprinted behind a willow tree
When he returned he was buttoning his pants
Ole Lou mustíve had to pee

He drove like hell between all his stops
Till my jaw felt like it was a flap
At the end of the ride I sat perfectly still
Bugs in my hair Ė frogs in my lap
